HI Guy's
Anybody explain me some HeadLines differences Between red and Arri D20 ?
Befor 2 or 3 years iknew about D20 that is not for sale ,it's for rent and you can only rent it with its Staff , like you are dealing with some classified military secrets :nuke: of the century
Now RED is For All ..
is there is too much differences between them ??

RED is the King (4K, 2K, HD+affordable and MUCH better cam+workflow) and D20 is just a slave (HD nightmare in all ways).

Bassam,
You were lucky...you could have asked dwarf about pc vs mac.
The chart here (http://www.hdcompare.com/Apples-to-Apples.htm) gives you the headline differences.

I like the D20 optical viewfinder... I remember there being a discussion here somewhere that it'd be really cool to have an optical viewfinder on the Red, but that it would double or triple the cost of the Red One body... something like that.
Ah well... we'll be watching through 4K monitors soon...

Agree with you about the optical viewfinder. That is the ONLY thing I will miss on the RED. A worthy trade off considering how far forward this camera is taking us.

Yeah I'm with that. I'd still rather have a Red I can use whenever I want and have to put up with the EVF than to hire a D20 for a few days...

I am a dop/lighting cameraman working in drama and docs in the uk. I have been interested in the red camera since it was first announced, and have been watching these forums and the cml lists about red.
For me, this is the bottom line....
I see the red camera as potentially being a good thing for certain jobs. I see the arri d20 as being good for certain jobs. I see the sony 900r being good for certain jobs. I see the panasonic varicam being good for certain jobs. I see the arri sr3 as good for certain jobs. I see the arri 435 as being good for certain jobs. blah blah blah ad infinitum
The way I see it, and I suspect a lot of people on this board do as well, is that as film makers we use the best tool for the story telling that is required. I don't think that a red with the 60 seconds boot up time from switched off state is going to be any good for an observational documentary, even though it may promise better quality. With a 900r or varicam you can be turning over within about 4 seconds from switched off state. You can even have a cache record in the 900r which allows you to hit the record button while in standbye mode and get the previous 10 secs of stuff seen through the lens. Also, the red looks a bit unwieldly in hand held mode with hd 2/3 " lenses.
No camera is or ever will be perfect. The red will be the same. To put the red on a pedestal is a real shame, as it will never live up to the hype and will suffer as people feel let down. That would be a shame, as it has the potential to be great for a lot of things, but not all.
Let the people who make good films use it, and see what can be done with it...... on tv and on the screen. Till then, lets loose the hysteria.
