Okay, so we're halfway to NAB 2008!
Normally I would barely think about it until February, but I keep wondering what's next from Red and how completely awesome NAB will be. Also I'm dying to know if ANYONE tries to compete with Red, at all. So...line up and say if you are planning on coming and what your predictions are. Then come NAB we can dig this thread up and see how close we were!
My predictions:
-Red will have non-functioning prototypes of the "pocket" camera but..
-They will have functional prototypes of the 4k display and..
-Most importantly, the projector running the "Red Theater" will be the Red 4k Projector!
-Pre-ordered Red's will still be shipping, thus you still won't be able to order a Red for immediate delivery
-Sony, Panasonic, JVC or Canon will have a 4k Vaporware Camera. No footage, just a preliminary glorified prop that they will point to.
-The parties will rock! :-)

Oh, I'll be there for sure again this year. This time I hope to actually meet up with other RED Heads.
I agree shawn, I think we'll be seeing some 4K display goodness from RED.
Can't wait!

I'm pretty sure I'll be there again (pending budgets) and will find another reason to hang around the Red tent just about the entire time.
I'd LOVE to see 4k projectors and displays, but unless they are farming out large sections of that development, I think they are going to be too focused on making the Red One completely kitted out and badass by then. I would love to be wrong though!
I think we'll at least get some details on the plan for those and some specs on the pocket cam and maybe a really early non-functional box (as in the Red One from NAB 06).

Here's my NAB predictions:
* RED will show us what the "Professional Pocket Camera" is all about and we should see some sort of prototype.
* RED will debut one or two models of 4K displays
* RED will announce a line of 4K projectors
* Third-party vendors and developers will formally announce support for RED and REDCODE. Hopefully announcements from Avid, Adobe, Discreet, etc..
* RED Prime Lenses
* More 4K vaporware from Sony and others
* A shift within the rest of the camera industry toward adopting more modular designs.
* Apple will launch updates to Final Cut Studio giving 4K / REDCODE support across all the applications.
* I also predict that some of my predictions may be a bit optimistic.

I'm not smart enough to make any sort of predictions, but I hope that RED either books a couple nights in one of the local theatre venues with a 4K projector showing a mass show reel of user work (like the CineAlta Feastival from years past) or has a big "walk-through" viewing area in their tent where projection of the same is on-going and repeated...

There is a prediction that I can fully agree with!

Hopefully the lineups will be shorter...
...or you better try and get a hold of an exhibitor pass. :) (You can lineup before everyone else is allowed on the show floor. Heh.)

Ooh...I like that idea.
Red had better host a party this year! :-)

I'm in if there's a party to attend or a group of REDheads putting something less formal together. Hell, any excuse to drive to Vegas is good with me.
Oh, and I have no idea what RED has in store for the show.

Great predictions Shawn... do you guys know if RED ever said they would make a FF or Mattebox? Seems like with all their primes and the 50-150 being out by NAB 2008, they could make a pretty killer Mattebox and FF.
I would predict that the RED/Cooke "i" technology will finally work completely with full metadata, and sound and playback will all be working.
A few features will be done and in theatres by then.... I like the idea of the screening room playing all the time...so people could just walk through...
RED pocket camera...... I'm thinking ICONIX mixed with REDCODE RAW onto CF.... so basically a RED 2k sensor with a fixed lens or C mount sized lens onto 32 and 64GB CF cards. with the ability to shoot windowed 2k (720p or 480p) at 300fps like the new Casio.
Speaking of Casio.... and 300fps....
why can't we shoot at 300fps at 480p on the RED ONE? it would be super cool to use for a few things...

RedRock will come out with a RED rig. Silicon Imaging announcing a 4K camera (not so sure though).
I could really see JVC announcing a 4K camera though. Didn't they already?
Dalsa with a new 4K CMOS sensor.
Kodak with a new RGB sensor concept.
Canon with a 2/3" AVCHD/HDV Hybrid XL series camera (they'll announce it before NAB though)
Panasonic maybe a new VariCam that shoots 1080p at 100fps or something. HVX500 with AVC-Intra. 64GB P2.
Sony talking about their new 4K projectors, XDCAM EX camera.
The Future of Animation by NHK.
I can dream, can't I?

Can this really happen? I mean I am not a advocate of it but I would support it!

If Red does do a Mattebox, I predict it'll be CVB's solution

I could really see JVC announcing a 4K camera though. Didn't they already?
In September they showed their 4k projector at the CEDIA trade show. They played a 15-minute film called "The Trident", starting David Carradine, which was shot on the Dalsa. The same thing was shown at CineGear Expo 2007. http://www.makingthemovie.info/2007/06/cinegear-expo-2007.html (Just search for Carradine)
Not sure if it was the Dalsa or the JVC, but I was not that impressed. The content had a milky feel to it. They also played some 4k computer gen footage from the Boeing Flight Sim that was tac sharp.

I'm guessing we'll see the pocket camera in some way... whether it's a CNC'd brick or an early prototype.
I think we'll see some of the newer lens offerings, hopefully including the primes set.
As for the projectors, displays, etc... I dunno. It'd be nice, but as of today, I don't expect to see them there.
I can't wait to see the footage screened there.

I can't wait for NAB. Things should be pretty crazy around the RED tent. Can't wait to see what pops up.:sorcerer:
