just want to clear up some things before I start shopping lenses for my nikon dslr. Please correct me if I am wrong!
Birger Nikon mount:
primes
Will not support focussing AF D but it will support aperture changes in smaller steps than an aperture ring would allow. AIS designated Nikkors will be better with regard to focus throw, but only allow half stop aperture changes. Since all nikon primes in the normal focal range (except for the 105mm ) are either AFD or AIS there is no solution without hazzles.
Will not support anything on the zf primes. However, I tried the 85mm zf and noticed a very long focus throw (longer than the ais) which although a bit stiff could work without ff for my purposes (docs). However I am not sure this advantage also holds true for the 50mm ZF and and the wider primes. Read somewhere that it was shorter (here it is)

Will only support aperture changes for sigma primes. which means they are irrelevant except for the macros maybe.
Zooms
Will support focussing and aperture changes in smaller steps on all nikon zooms designated af-s.
Will support focussing and aperture changes on Sigma HSM lenses in nikon mount, although without any "official" guarantee.
Will only support aperture changes for Tokina pro lenses in nikon mount. And since they have a short focus throw they are basically out.
Nikon is quite well covered with regard to the zooms (however beware the 70-200mm is huge) with the sigma 50-150mm as a nice halfway tele option. But in the primes department I am a bit lost. I would really like to work without mecanical ff and matte box, since I like a more unobtrusive shooting style. But what are you guys getting?
