Is there anyone that is able to describe the workflow needed to achieve that?

Thanks.

Yes. And it only takes 2 words. Good Luck.

Seriously, at the moment this is not simple. You have to export to a format that Avid can import, and since Avid doesn't understand time code from Quicktime files and Red Alert doesn't put time code into DPX headers, you're kind of out of luck at the moment unless you're willing to do an awful lot of manual data entry. That will, of course, change in the future, but if you're going to shoot a project using Red right now, using anything other than Final Cut is a very masochistic approach. And even Final Cut requires a lot of work at the moment, or at least until Redcine is released.

What will RedCine solve? EDL import.. or timecode export? Or some other issue?

RedCine will export DPX with metadata (not sure if it'll do it on release but it is something they're aiming at). RedCine also has lots of window burn etc options.

Of course everyone hopes it will export MXF files - then you could just pull into Avid with TC, metadata etc attached.

Hopefully RedCine will also facilitate generating a RPL (Red Pull List) from an Avid edit (from EDL?) for online. Or Scratch can figure out which .r3d data corresponds to your Avid edit when you online? They demonstrated that using an FCP timeline... probably works through the Quicktime system though.

Or else Avid will get on the ball and either bug the heck out of the Red team on a daily basis until the Red folks help them import .r3d files natively, or they will implement timecode import from Quicktimes.

This is similar to the other thread - REDCINE needs to export metadata (and more than a single timecode). This is being discussed with them already as part of the beta process. Scratch already exports a Scratch EDL that has all this metadata in it - basically add that to REDCINE and there will be the basis for a workflow that includes metadata... and a lot of transcoding time.

I wish to use Avid for editorial and may use scratch for conform/grade...

Ideal:

Scratch or redcine can output a MXF or OMF file that can be pulled into avid through media tool.. Very few programs can do this and I don't holdout hope for this to be done asap... This is infinitely faster than QuickTime or DPX with or without TC metadata...

Scratch can read AAF file from Avid?... Automatic Duck has already done the work for other aps so perhaps they may be interested?? Without AD or similar helping I again don't hold out much hope. It would be in Avid's interest to do this but they are going for the slow commercial suicide at the moment..

The first workflow to be available and tested will be:

* REDCINE convert RAW files to QuickTime wrapped DNxHD
* REDCINE exports metadata in whatever file format they want
* Convert Scratch "EDL" to ALE and import into Avid
* Batch import QT wrapped filed via clips created from ALE
* Resulting master clip has all metadata and essence
* Edit
* Avid exports XML of cut/selects to be imported into Scratch for conform and final color correction from native RED raw files.
