Do you think there is any chance that both formats will survive for the next decade or whatever? I am one of those people sitting on the fence still, hoping this war will be over soon, so I can invest in something that won't go the way of Sony's Beta vs VHS.

In the history of technology formats, there seems to almost always be a winner and a loser, but HD-DVD and Bluray are actually very close in terms of technology. What do you think the chances are that future players will simply play both formats and people can have an assorted Bluray and HD-DVD collection?

Hehe.. This very topic has been a raging discussion in this thread here (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5493), just read past the first 10 posts or so.

Universal players (players that will play DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) are coming. LG has had one out for about 5 months now and they have an update to it due next month. Samsung is releasing theirs this Friday unless they have an un-announced delay at the last minute. The Samsung player looks like a winner. There will be more universal players next year.

I'm going to shut this thread down, just to keep the discussion in one place. :)
