Do you have a better picture of the lens motor setup so we can start to make excuses?

That rig is wicked cool. Looks like you guys are having a ton of fun. I'd love to see the portion of the shot when you guys went completely vertical over the bike and swooped down quickly.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one having to make sure those batteries stay seated! ;-)

Evin, real BAs config.
It is too much to ask you to post close-ups of the lenses motors from both sides?:-)
Thanks!

Well, this is what it should have looked like...

But since the 24V power I was told existed on the truck turned out to be a miscommunication it ended up looking like this....

Props to Shane and Brook for somehow adapting some ten year old motors and film gears to give us Zoom and focus, Iris wasn't such a big deal since we were shooting WFO all night anyhow.

The fact that we got it up and running with the parts we had available is a true testament to the modularity of the camera. I can't think of any other camera that's modular enough to allow mounting so much crap in such an emergency-inspired way with parts available in our collective kits.

I have to say I'm puzzled by the problems with the battery mounts that several people have reported. I'm not trying to suggest that people are making these reports up or anything, but we've been using v-lock batteries on two different Sony 2/3" cameras for the last 6 or so years, and we've never had problems with dodgy connections. That's both genuine Sony li-ion batts and the cheaper options from IDX.

One camera (DSR-570) has a genuine Sony battery plate, the other (D35/DSR1 combo) has an IDX battery plate instead. We shoot a lot of ENG so the cameras get thrown around a bit, and never had a problem with the battery contacts.

The battery mount was still pretty new but I wouldn't say it was unreliable. I would have staped down any battery on the end of a crane going 30MPH 15' off the ground.

GULP. Hows that for a heart stopper. I get a little freaked when my P2 hangs from a jib over a pool/ocean at 3 feet. Guess I'll get use to it.
