NEW 64bit STORM PUBLIC BETA LAUNCHED TODAY!

IMPORTANT: Please read the Release Notes available on the Foundry's website to see the issues that this latest build addresses.

STORM assists RED Digital Camera workflows. It's quick and easy to navigate allowing producers, directors and editors to view takes in high resolution without interruption or delay.

We’re taking the unusual step of making the STORM beta publicly available because we want to get feedback from the widest audience possible. We want to know how STORM fares in different production environments and to hear your views.

So...try it, break it , tell us what's missing and help us build a great product.

NB: This is a beta release and, therefore, not perfect. Please be cautious and don't rely upon it in production.

If you have a Red Rocket card you WILL need to update the Drivers and Firmware to v1.3.5! If you don't, the card will not be detected. If you choose not to upgrade the Drivers and Firmware you can continue to use Storm Software Mode.
RED Rocket 1.3.5 Drivers and Firmware (http://red.cachefly.net/rocket/RED_Rocket_Installer_v1.3.5c.zip)

We're very keen to hear your feedback.

Disclaimer: Exercise caution if you are currently using your machine for a production!

STORM 1.0v1b7 is available for download here:

http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/storm/try/

...and is FREE to use until the 1st March 2011. STORM requires a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro or iMac with at least 2GB RAM running Snow Leopard. If a RED ROCKET card is fitted, STORM will use it to speed up processing of R3D material.

Enjoy!

What's new in Storm since the last Beta Release:

New Features

• The Effects Stack now has a Blending Mode button, allowing you blend effects in the stack with your clips and other effects.
• You can now write RMD files within Storm, or use/ ignore RMDs created by other applications, for example Redcine-X.
• Storm can now trim R3D files, allowing you to cut out wasteful footage and create new R3D source files.

Feature Enhancements

• You can now select and delete gaps in the Timeline.
• The RED Look effect in the Effects Stack has been improved and the added tools collapsed by default to reduce screen clutter.
• Storm now displays a warning message when you try to add clips with different framerates to the Timeline.
• You can now set default RED Rocket output settings using the Preferences > RED Rocket Card dialog box.
• You can now maximise the pane under the mouse cursor by pressing F2. Press F2 again to return to the regular interface.
• The Production view and general interface have been improved, including default Bin icons and behaviour.
• Improvements have been made to the Lift Gamma Gain effect, including RGBM reset buttons. The RED Look effect now features separate Lift, Gamma, and Gain settings in line with those found in Redcine-X.

I poped into the Foundry today for a demo and a heads up on Storm B7. These guys are working really hard to make this software what RED users want and need. I down loaded an early beta a while back but have not had any time to play until last week. I instantly liked the UI and thought i needed to know more. After leaving today I am even more taken buy it. Spent about an hour thinking what a powerful piece of dedicated software Storm is for a very reasonable price. Thanks to the Foundry for and those who spent time in the demo today. Keep up the great work guys :-)

reduser is a real name forum.

at the foundry guys:
does xml in from fcp and edl out of storm now work, ergo is it now usuable as conforming tool.
request:
btw. would be great to be able to load qt and dpx files, so storm can be used as a real conforming tool in the future (dpx and qt's because of titles vfx shots etc.)

reduser is a real name forum.

If it bothers you then email the mods and ask them to change it. I have registered my real name thanks. I have also been here for a couple of years now and know how it works. But thank you for your concern. Now can we please stay on topic here.

Hi Dan. Is there a way to view the output via Red Rocket or Kona. Both have dual hd-sdi outputs and feed my 12 series panasonic. It works with FGP, Color and Redcine-x but I have not found anything to allow this in Storm. Is there any way to output in this manner. Really love the program hope this is possible. Thanks

Hi Frank, we don't currently support the Kona card. You can do monitor out via the Red Rocket though. I have mine set up with SDI out.

thanks,
Dan

But you can't monitor Storm effects through the RR, only original RED corrections. Quite a problem, IMHO – you need calibrated monitoring.

Hi Storm Team,
I noticed tonight that I am not able to drag and drop tags or looks to multiple clips at the same time.

I selected multiple clips in a BIN and tried to drag a tag to them. The tag was only applied to the clip my cursor hovered over.
