Howdy all you RED Heads Lets paint old Hog Town RED!
I believe Boothba had suggested a get together this month. Maybe we can get together to discuss among other things market positioning, ie. rental pricing, not suggesting collusion or anything ;)

Anyone with a good location?

I'm in. And my partner on Red #562 would probably come too.

Thanks for reminding me Bro! Unfortunately I have to go to New Zealand for a Budweiser shoot next week (poor me) and I'm fricken' swamped for a couple of weeks after that... Don't know if we can delay for a bit?

I do think a local group is going to be sooooo valuable for backup gear, technical (and moral) support, Redcine services, etc. This is especially true for anyone (at any time) thinking of renting out their Red. I also think that most Red-users seem to be great, forward-thinking folks, so it should be fun.

Anyway, if you guys decide to meet in the short term please send me a PM or email at alexboothby@yahoo.com. If nothing happens by the end of March I will send out an official invite or something.

Cheers
Alex Boothby

Thanks guys 5 of us so far by my count. Sounds like its rounding out to early April, couple of weeks before NAB.
I'm heading to Vegas, any one else going? I think we'd probably want to wait for Alex and his wealth of knowledge to return from Middle Earth to have a formal meet. But it would be great to get together before NAB.

What about Glenn Chan? haven't seen him post in a while.

There is a workshop for the SI-2K cam at PS on Valentines day, (Wed Feb 14). I'm going in the morning (got to check out the competition first hand  ). Would be cool to see you guys there. We could have a cuppa after and do a debrief.

PM me if you plan to check it out.

I live very close to PS Production Services. I'll definitely go check out the SI-2K if there's still room in the morning demonstration session.

Sounds good.

I'm definately down for April (hopefully) but my schedule is all over the map.

Trying to get things all arranged so i can take some time with the little lady (RED) when she arrives.

Hey, I'd be interested. I plan on going to the SI seminar (the second later session), so maybe I'll run into some of the other Redheads there.

2- When Red is shipping, I'm sure someone can convince Graeme (Nattress) to fly to Toronto for a Red demonstration, i.e. at a FCP user's group meeting or a SMPTE meeting. Just a subtle hint to Graeme here. ;)

I second that! I second that! Or maybe at an event (...?) where we can get a bunch of production companies, indie film makers and ad agencies in attendance.

How 'bout it Graeme? ...at least in principle.

Thanks Dale, Gabbymogul, and Glenn. Guess we could start trowing in some suggestions for a date and location in April for our initial meeting of RED Toronto.

Glenn I'm looking forward to meeting you on Wed @ PS.
If you can make it an a hour or so befor the 1:00 workshop, and Sean can wait, we can have a mini RED meet of Sean, You and I.

Hmmm...I'm interested. I don't have a reservation nor is there any way I could possibly afford one however I would like to attend a meeting if possible to learn more and meet other people who see the possibilities! :) Looks like we have quite a few RED users in Toronto! :D

Guess we could start trowing in some suggestions for a date and location in April for our initial meeting of RED Toronto.

I'd be happy to host a meeting at Technicolor on Ontario Street & Adelaide where I work freelance - but that may require an evening or weekend. At first I thought it would be cool to screen a bunch of 2K and 4K RED footage (maybe on a digital projector) but this now seems a bit silly. I think it's much more valuable to brainstorm real stuff - like workflow, gear, resources, rates, barter systems, buddy systems... whatever. To a certain degree I feel that for RED to do well in Toronto, we all have to do well and look out for each other in case of nighmare situations like down gear, stressed workflows, etc...

I would be thrilled if the Toronto industry never hears the words "Oh Red... my friend had a bad experience...." or... "digital is not a safe format..." or.... "it takes too long to convert Dailies.... etc." I think that's where we can all share ideas and come up with some rock solid workflows and safety nets.

As such I'm sure we could meet anywhere - maybe a bar. :)

Until then...
Alex

Hi Alex, those of us who can make it are going to have an initial mini RED Meet at PS between the two SI-2K demos they are hosting on Wed. (see invite above).

If there is syncronicity among our schedules on the day we could take the meet over to The Real Jerk restaurant at 709 Queen East (at Broadview) for a drink and to chit chat in private.

Wish I could make the SI demo but I'm out of town. I just had a chat with Phil Reimer @ PS the other day. Maybe you could ask him if they'll be renting RED - haha. I've heard that SIM video is getting a RED.

Hope you guys have a good meet up - I'll have to wait for part duex.

Spoke with the camera dept. manager at PS, and yes they do have "a few" cameras on order. So they will be renting. Thats good news, that means RED's vision is catching on.

Looking forward to meeting with you when you get back.
