Red Settings: 4k ASA 320 1/48 shutter
Red Zoom @ T16/T22 (in between)
Red Alert: Nothing at all, this is raw and hot off the press! Downconverted to 1k H264.
Today while doing tests with a production house, the lighting turned perfect after lunch and we went outside and I shot this. Here I really wanted to show what a nice deep depth of field you could get.
Often we talk so much about shallow DOF, which is awfully beautiful, but sometimes it can look exceptionally nice to stop down and see what you're looking at.
With fall in full swing, there's an awful lot to look at! Here you can also see a demo of how well Red holds the contrast. Observe that we have no clipping. The sky is a nice blue and that side of building is very hot, but still preserved, and yet we are still seeing quite clearly under *heavy* shading.

I'm surprised the lens looks that good at such a small stop. For you are deep into the land of diffraction limitation. More so at the wide end. Impressive.

Orson Wells would be wetting himself. Glad to see some people who love Citizen Cane and depth of field in film or 4k. I think the love of lack of dof is much like loving grain... Kodak over the years has tried to reduce grain and increase dof with higher ASA. There is a reason for both... but to hate dof because of video or sitcoms that like it... I think is rather off mark. Just like choosing 24fps just because it is film. Film chose 24fps because it was cheep not because of the look... why not add grain to your video too?! CDs killed records pretty fast... so will nice HD or 4k...either at 30fps or 60fps (with good blur)

Thanks Greg! Deep DOF can look absolutely amazing on the Red, because it has the detail and the color to really carry it, and have that soft blur as it get's far away.

i just looped your footage, and it looks fun to see it in endless mode. it looks like you mentioned to do it this way. the person is re-appearing again and again. fun to watch in loop mode. btw. did you use any color correction in post?

Deep DOF comes in very handy, obviously. Especially when your actors are walking and you're trying to follow, etc. I'm curious how this image is looking for you in higher res. It really does appear to stay in focus from foreground to background, at least when viewed on my laptop. Does it look like your subject stays in focus throughout his walk from around the corner all the way to the camera when viewed at higher/full resolution?

He does go a bit soft when he gets to within 10ft of the camera, but it could be acceptable if you weren't panning with them.
