I'm more concerned about the "maximum" 13mbps (that's bits, folks) recording rate. That's half of DV, yet they're recording twice the resolution. Even worse, there's a 6mbps option to smash it down even more!

I understand that with a consumer camera, long record times are important... but at least give users the option of a decent bitrate!

Oh, and yes... that thing looks disastrous. :-P

Well, it doesn't do full 1920x1080... so I wasn't giving them the extra benefit. :) But yeah, those are pretty scary specs!

It's the Panasonic HDC-SD1 in a bigger body with a bigger EFV, LCD monitor and microphone. And a lens hood and shoulder pad. It's probably really light too.

It's AVCHD, so it's not that bad. I would say that when it's scaled to 480i or 480p, it's probably just as good if not better than DV, but it depends on the quality of the camera itself.

And I thought the AG-HVX200 looked funny. It makes it looks beautiful now.

To say something to the defense of panasonic's design team or maybe even panasonic perhaps the execs demanded a camera of those specs to compete with one of Sony's products but the team weren't interested in working on the project so they quickly threw something together just to keep them happy.
Remember most people in exec positions don't know the first thing about design.
