View Full Version : RED SuperGrip for EPIC?

RED had talked about and had posted a render of a product they called Supergrip that fell off the radar some time ago.
In thinking about EPIC in HH config I think this might be a perfect match to work with Canon, Nikon and, when available, RED Electronic lenses.
A handle mount remote FIZ, start/stop, and some RED special features (no doubt), it seems like logical accessory for RED to make available to use not only with EPIC, but more importantly Scarlet.
And for the ultimate in elegant engineering solutions, make it REDmote compatible, complete with user programmable buttons, custom FIZ speeds. I see incredible utility and powerful control of the camera this way!

I just found info from NAB 2007(!) on Mike Curtis blog.
The SuperGrip looks great with 10 user programmable buttons.
Here is the link to the page, scroll down a bit to see the info on SuperGrip:

Definitely a product I truly wish was produced.
This or a product like it would make quick navigation through the RED ONE menus much easier.
With over 8000 RED ONEs out there I would imagine there would still be a market for this.

Thanks for bringing that up Robert. I have also supported all along the idea of Red making the Super Grip, or something else similar with the same functionality. I shoot a lot of shoulder held and will do so with Epic. IMO there is a massive market for such a tool in the gigantic mobile EFP industry.
Bring it on...

Would be great to have a joystick or tiny trackball integrated, to allow operator controlled "touch focus".

Like it...that's real good idea too...:)

Yes! Pleeeeeeeaaase?
Handheld configurations need an efficient method of controlling at least a few basic camera parameters such as iris and ISO.

:iagree: I really like this idea too.
Keep 'em coming peeps.
Just a simple application for SuperGrip to put out there: the ability to set focus stops on two user buttons, perhaps with a learn function for focus speed curves.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Curt from Viewfactor was the one who originally was going to make the SuperGrip for RED. Not sure why it never got made as lots of people really wanted it. Makes total sense to make one for the Epic.
