What are the differences between the LDS Ultra Primes and the Plannar and Distagon Ultra Primes that Arri/Zeiss is manufacturing today?

LDS is the later Ultra Prime and they have the Lens Data System proprietary to Arri systems. The front is also larger. Otherwise exactly the same lens.

Arri/Zeiss is making both versions; LDS which are physically a little bigger as they have the larger front and the non data Ultra Primes.
Optically exactly the same. There may be a slight weight difference but that can be checked on the Arri/Zeiss website.
In obtaining 10 sets of UltraPrimes for Spiderman we gor a few of the LDS and we had to remove the front part of the barrel to make them fit on the 3Ality T5 rig.

LDS Ultra Primes are 104mm front, Ultra Primes are 95mm.

TEN SETS? Man the things I could do with enough money to buy ONE set, or even one lens...

Well, they didn't BUY ten sets. They are renting them for the duration of the film, which is what almost all productions do...

Yes sorry about that. If it read that we bought 10 sets I would be shocked. we rented 10 sets and had Dan Sasaki at Panavision go through every lense to match for left and right eye for our 3D rigs.
Cheers,
Peter
