Screen Daily reports that UK cinema chain Vue has inked its deal with Sony to install Sony 4K projectors across its circuit of 68 cinemas and 657 screens in the UK and Ireland [over the next 18 months]

I'm not sure what the playout system will be for the projectors, perhaps Redray will crop up?

But one thing is clear - RED are absolutely correct about 4K becoming standard. 2K is not an option.

The three smaller chains Vue, Apollo, Showcase are going Sony 4K. The market share leaders Odeon and Cineworld are 2K for the moment but will upgrade their larger screens to 4K in the near future. Most of the 2K projectors currently installed are already considered out of date. Its likely their current 3K (Lumen) sized projectors will stay at 2K resolution and the 4K (Lumen) will upgrade to 4K resolution.

Redray will not crop up. Even if its the best thing since sliced bread (which if RED are creating it, I'm sure it is) standards mean everything and standards change slowly unless there is a undeniable monetary benefit.

The biggest hurdle still is getting Cinemas to install decent rated lamps. This is not a per cinema issue it comes from the top and crosses all chains.
