Cool Billy! In some ways it seems like 10 years since I picked up your Red One #13 along with my Red One #8 back in August 2007.
Enjoy the new baby - this time your wife wasn't having a real baby so you could come and get the Epic yourself.
BTW - I love the low-tech, but effective solution to weather blockage (trash bag). I've used one of those many times myself over the years...ya do what ya gotta do :-)

Well no, but it does confirm my suspicions, Epic has a strong power draw. It may last up to three hours on a Red Brick, but the gravitational force it creates is very strong. It'll pull not only Tonacis and Josephs, but all RedUsers alike. Be VERY careful when powering it up. It will even draw a Ted from halfway around the world.

Thanks man.
Indeed, I am of the same sentiments.
I just talked to the editor and he said on his calibrated monitor the raw files looked great however somewhere in the compression process it came out looking much noisier.
At first I thought it might be the Super speed mark I's at T1.3 breaking down, more so than the sensor or anything specific to the Epic.

Hey Stephen, nice editing pace. I'd use that final beat of the song to introduce another take perhaps a nice slowmo close-up and really give that final impression to the unconscious.
Someone at Vimeo commented about a layer of non-moving noise in the image. It really seemed weird. Is that a dirty filter of some sort or just fruit of H264 compression?

Thanks for the thought Pietro. I think the noise you're seeing is a combination of the glass and the compression. More so the compression;). I made a Pro Res of the file and it's a little less noticeable. And Billy is right, on the calibrated monitor coming through RED Cine X the noise is substantially less noticeable. Still trying to troubleshoot to be honest. (Full disclosure, my wife just had a baby a couple days ago so I'm running a little behind on my list of to-do's)

The "tractor beam" flare artifacts are the result of us not using a matte box with these primes. They are zeiss super speeds. I'm going to put them on my MX, and play with the flaring.
I actually think the effect is quite awesome for this, especially when the car is driving, and the flare from the street lights float down like a mist.
As far as noise, it looks pretty darn clean to me.
Nice cut Stephan! That was a fun shoot!

At the risk of speaking out of school... we have been beta testing the new Magic Motion and the results are incredible. There are shots that are just dramatically better with the MM. Not all ... but what a great piece of development work. Really I could not be more impressed with how the R&D is progressing and the sensible and intelligent way the HDRx is moving.

Matt, it's crazy easy!
Basically you right click on an HDRx clip that is in the bin and choose "Manual Pairing" from the menu. Then choose one of four options for pairing the two streams together.
At this point "HDR blend" will appear on the right in the color control panel/menu.
Grab the slider and blend to your heart's desire
That's it!
pretty cool.

Killer look Billy. I cannot wait to mess around with HDRx. Was fortunate enough to work with Ketch this past weekend, but didn't get a chance to see how the HDRx stuff looked after it was shot. Your shot, is a perfect example of typical uses of HDRx.
You said that the whole shoot was done on HDRx, is there a "story or motif" reason for doing so? or was it just that all of your shots called for having the extra latitude?

Peter, although there was a particular "story motif" that corresponded to the narrative, the real reason we used HDRx was to compensate for our lack of budget. In order to achieve the same look without using HDRx we would have had to employ large daylight fixtures, a process trailer, larger grip and lighting department, and flown several 20x or 12X silks/bounces etc.
It was also an opportunity for me to jump off a cliff with the HDRx, so to speak. Until that day, I had never used it or seen it used, but in theory I thought it to be the perfect tool (and it was). I was a little worried, but then again it was a music video, so we had a lot of leeway creatively;)
