Hi from Slovakia,

we wanted to make reservation for Red Camera and Zoom, but we've had problems with pay pal registration and didn't manage to get it done in time.

So, my question for people from RED company: is there another way to make additional reservation or to order camera?

Not currently: reservations are closed. The camera will be available to non-reservation holders at some point. We do not know when this will be specifically, but it will almost certainly be after the ~1,350 reserved cameras have shipped.

just guessing - maybe they'll open reservations during NAB ???

Since they just closed reservations, I doubt it. Personally I expect reservations to stay closed indefinitely; Once all reservations have shipped, I would expect the camera to be available for purchase on a "first-come, first-served" basis. This is, of course, a personal guess only.

I thought I did hear Jim say that the last round was the last round until NAB. But I don't know if those will be reservation or that will just be MSRP. product

Regular orders will be taken at NAB. We expect to post a full price list in a couple of weeks.

Ok, that's perfect. I just hope the NAB orders will ship before the end of year...

Until now, we were shooting all of our commercials on 35mm film, but since there are no labs in Slovakia, we have to travel to Prague for developing, OLT and scans. This is why 4K digital camera became a dream for us...

So I just hope the dream will come true during this year :)

So will the Red camera body be much more expensive for after reservation holders?

So far as has been announced, the body price will remain the same for the near term.

Expensive compared to what - the only other offerings are $60 - 90K and up...

When it is available, would you have to pay full price up front when you place an order? Or is there just going to be some kind of down payment and pay the rest when your order is ready to ship?

It would really suck to have to plop down $17.5k for something that you won't get till another 6 months or so; let's not forget to mention interest fees if you have to pay with credit. At least you'd be on a list and for an awesome product at that too :)! But still something doesn't feel right paying in full for something that you know won't be shipped for time to come. I hope all you'd have to do is make a small deposit at the time of ordering, or even better, I hope there will be no charge until it's ready to ship. I might be the only one worried about all this, but any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wasn't making comparisons to any other product but of the Red itself, please don't put words in my mouth.

Hi,

I am sure there will only be a small deposit. In any case by the end of the year cameras I would assume cameras will be available off the shelf for instant delivery.

As I recall, when Canon has released some of their new DSLR models (maybe 20D, 5D) they have been in very limited supply for many months after the official release. And that is a very large manufacturer.

Hi,

I understand Red intend to produce about 200 cameras per month. Mitchell took over 30 years to build 1450 GC's!

And I bet 1400 of them can still pull film.

Jim posted this last night...

We have approximately 1460 reservations. It will take a few months from initial shipping (around NAB) to complete these cameras. We will take firm orders at NAB for cameras after #1460. There will be posted pricing for the system in a couple of weeks on www.red.com.

Hope this helps.

Nice one:)

I do like the "over engineered" look of the red one which gives me good reason to be happy with the build quality. I do worry about anything with electronics though. When i see photo's of the arri cameras they do look extremly well built. Maybe someone can comment on the current leaders regards build quality.

Hello Vladus,

I'm glad that great Slovak commercials production studio is joining RED revolution. It is another proof that RED is right choice with bright future.

We had problems with PayPal registration too but after calling Kelly we succeded with reservation.

There are couple of reservations in Vienna and also at least 2 cams in Prague. And of course, our in Kosice.

Nice to see you here.

Laco

Hi Laco,

it's great to see someone "domestic" over here. I hope we can pay a visit to Kosice after you get your piece. Looks like we've missed our reservation, since I get no answer from RedCore, but I hope they will speed up production after NAB, so that we can get our cam this year.
