What did I miss here? Is this just sloppy writing? The article makes it sound as if 3ality is marketing their own cameras and not just a 3d system for RED.

I don't think Sony was keen to formally announce that Spider-man was being shot with RED cameras. I don't blame them. Allow 3ality their moment in the sun... but not RED. Makes perfect sense.

I don't see any negative impact for RED from this article. That fact being that anybody already in the market for high-end digital cinema is surely already quite aware of what RED is doing here and will instantly spot that it is in fact a RED camera in there. Two, I'm sure rabid RED devotees will swarm that site with emails demanding retraction or a corrective article. Finally, whats the name of that site again? First, I've heard of it. Pretty laughable in my opinion. Keep your nose to the grindstone RED:smile5:, I need a scarlet so I can make some swanky motion pictures!

it's not about negative impact... it's just rudeness.

RED is an important partner for us... we are working together on Spiderman, The Hobbit, a fairly large movie in the UK that is prepping right now, and RED and 3ality Digital talk pretty much every day.

Press releases are a funny thing, and they need to go through many people for various approvals. This release did have to go through many levels at Sony for approval. Our original text featured RED and other partners, and Sony wanted the release to focus on the company issuing the release – in this case, 3ality Digital.

EPIC is an amazing camera and the combination of EPIC and 3ality Digital systems is an incredible combination for feature film work. The footage I've seen screened in S3D has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. We will continue to support and promote RED to the limits of our abilities and permissions in the future.

Best,

Lucas

Hopefully Warners won't have as many objections on the next one.

It's not about "objections." It's just business. Working with any of the Studios (esp. Disney) on 3rd party PR is a dicey business, and it is impossible to guess what they will or will not be sensitive to.
