Strange question, but we're starting to do more shoots for agencies coming into town where we're sending our RED package and DIT to the shoot, but not posting the footage.

Do other DITs have any type of forms for various sign-offs from clients, footage tracking, etc?

Before I create one, I thought I should just ask. To me, it should have the following (and I'm curious what else should be there):
-Footage transfered description with a checkbox for on-site backup & LTO backup
-Exact file sizes of footage
-Client Sign-off IF they agree that only they are walking with the footage and that we are NOT keeping the footage on our drives (due to NDA's or no time to backup end of day)

What else? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Kevin

When I’m working on set I fill in a Data report sheet (which is just like an old style neg report) and then a Q.C. report. The Data report list things like Mag, Rolls, dates, location, iso etc where as the Q.C. is looking at the image quality.

One quick suggestion is that if you’re doing check sums keep the log files that say it was successful. This is one of the few things a DIT can fall back on if footage is lost and fingers are pointed.

Thanks, Callum. We've had several shoots recently where they didn't have time to back up the data to OUR drives, so they took the only master drives. I just know exactly how this would play out if that drive crashed or got lost. Fingers would immediately be pointed at us. So, this started me thinking we have to have a big old signature if they're walking without backups.

Thanks for your feedback. Anyone else on what else should be on our form?

Here is a link to the logs I use:

I have them printed in triplicate. I keep pink copy and production gets white and yellow copies.

Thanks for sharing that, Dusty. It's a good start. I would need to add some things to that. When I get others' thoughts, I'll create a doc and share it here on RED, too, hopefully.

Thanks.
