Hey all -

I just (finally) posted a bunch more 2K JPEGs, 4K TIFFs, commentary and analysis over on my site:

http://www.hdforindies.com/2007/11/more-stills-commentary-from-mikes-red.html

It is a long report, with multiple interpretations of some stills, comparisons of similar shots at 2K and 4K, etc.

We had some now known issues with the PL mount that likely threw off our focus, so bummer on that. (As we all know, is being fixed).

This round, I was interested in exploring how far some shots can be pushed in terms of saturation and gamma, so I did some Photoshop pushing. Some have complained about not being able to "paint in camera", so I did some after the fact in camera work - legitimate ONLY on a Red (or perhaps SI-2K) due to the RAW nature and recording methodology. The "RAgrade" versions are images created with RedAlert, using the same kinds of controls available on camera - they are a deliberate and intentional match to what can be done in Red Alert and vice versa.

Article and a buncha stills at:

Oh - and at the end of the post, there are a series of images in an intentionally high dynamic range shot - looking out of a passageway towards a brightly lit building and the sea, shot at 4 different T stops.

Everything is annotated this time around - Red Alert settings, lenses used, etc. etc. etc.

These last ones are AWESOME! Any chance of seeing just a short sequence of these - there's got to be noise in those shadows! Seriously, the DR is mindblowing...

Thanks a lot for the 48mb tifs and the thorough documentation. This is really valuable stuff. The only thing that would make it better is a short clip.

The latest couple pics seem to have a hot/stuck/dead pixel in the upper right sky area...
