Just received my BRAND NEW ZEiSS Light Weight Zoom 2 15.5mm- 45mm and it is awesome!
I got both the PL mount and Canon EOS mount.

The only bad thing is that the lens is SUPER 35 and wont work on a Canon 5d. Awesome on a 7d and
even better on a RED.

Perfect match for my Compact Prime kit and Also my MK III Super speeds. The flare are awesome and the lens matches perfectly
with all of my primes.

In fact there is NO DIFFERENCE in sharpness which is amazing for a Zoom lens.

AND NO I DONT SELL CAMERA GEAR! But I did wait 9 months for it!

How is the CA ? I haven't found a lot of information and user reports on this lens yet but one report said that CA was not well controlled ? Please do post some samples from it, there aren't many out there!

For $29K, I would be curious how it stacks up against the RED 17-50mm. Anyone want to test?

Also similarly priced to the Arri Allura 18-80 ($25,000) , also interesting to see a test..... :)

The Zeiss LWZ makes the RED 17-50 look like VHS. It is amazingly sharp. I haven't seen any chromatic abbherition ( I am a bad speller!). The lens is sharp from corner to corner even wide open.

Tell me what you would like to see and Ill shoot something. The lens came with a proper siemens star lens chart so I can film that as a reference. I dont have any RED lenses anymore as I found the zooms to be soft and full of CA and other distortions.

The LWZ is great on the steadicam but I dont know why they call it a Light Weight Zoom as it is quite big and heavy! Well light weight compared to an 24-290 Optimo anyway.

The quality of the lens build is outstanding.

Oh come on...

He spent $29,000 on it and waited 9 months for it, so I'm sure he desperately wants it to be good. It will give him a pretty strong post-purchase rationalization bias, and he has sold his RED lens and is now unable to compare them, not to mention being likely to have a choice-supportive bias because of that.

I expect the LWZ is pretty good, but I wouldn't guess about how it compares to any other lens without a direct and objective test.

It's not a criticism or a personal attack, just something we should all be aware of in ourselves and others.
