Hey guys, I'm based in Austin/Fort Worth and wanted to network with others. If you need to rent a RED in Texas, I'm the guy to come to!

or me...also in Austin - I'm partnering with someone with a full 35mm package - so PL mount lenses, heavy sticks, matte box, follow focus, etc.

Austin here too (though I work in Dallas a lot on commercials, etc); I'm going to be doing the DP for hire with equipment thing. Planning on cine-style setup with Cooke s4/i primes and all related gadgetry. I'm avalable for features, shorts, cine-syle docs, VFX shooting, commercials, etc.

Are any of y'all interested in forming a local user group to meetup regularly and exchange ideas, techniques, footage, tips/tricks, and generally hang out?

Maybe we could start a 24-hour RED-Austin short film race. ;)

I'd love to setup a local user group. We should meet in Austin sometime...I would love to network with you guys, it'd be a great chance to POSSIBLY hook each other up with equipment....

Austin is the place to be for indie, but I'm out of good ol' San Antonio. I reserved a RED, but am still in the financial planning phase of a producing a full length feature around Nov/Dec. In fact, Wade McDonald was one of several DPs that responded to my posting. My plan is to hire a DP with a RED ONE and if finances allow, be able to keep a RED ONE for myself as well. The main reason I want to hire a DP is so that they can concentrate on the cinematography while I concetrate on directing, working with the actors, and any other issues that may arise. It's good to see that there is a strong RED presence in Texas.

You should add Robert Rodreguiz to the list, I'm sure he bought a few of these Reds.

Howdy gents,

I'm in Austin as well. I look forward to being able to network with other Red One users in the region.

Best,

I'm a San Antonio Director/DP mostly for TV Spots and I'm in line for Red #100. I have owned the Varicam for three and a half years and I am very much looking forward to getting the red because as good as the varicam is, it just can't compete with 35mm. My company, Apple Productions, is a complete productions house, with 4 edit suites, a shooting stage, 3d graphics and location production from DV to Varicam to 35mm. We do not plan to rent the red but we are hoping to convert our film clients to this amazing new way to shoot and I would love to work with some independent film makers offering a camera/DP package.

I'm in Houston about to start a new production company with some well connected folks in my hometown of New Orleans (now the 3rd biggest film town in the country). There will come a time we'll need a second Red and possibly a DP as I'm more a writer/director (I'm learning though), so I'll keep you gents in mind.

Aloha,

You can add me to the list of future Red owners in Austin. Just moved here from Hawaii. Mostly I'll be using the several Nikon lenses I already own and rent other lenses as needed.

Tell me when and where and I'll come to a gathering. We can do it at my house if south Austin, near the airport is convenient for people.

Hey all, Mike Curtis of HD for Indies here - I'd be happy to host in South Austin as well, I'm in Travis Heights, close to Guerro's and all kinds of good restaurants as well. I'm VERY interested in what everyone plans to do with their cameras - owner/operators, rental only, make their own movie, etc.

Ping me at mike@hdforindies.com and lets get organized on this!

I'd think a post-NAB gathering would make sense - I get back ultra late Thursday (3am Friday morning) so maybe something that weekend if that works for everybody?

I also have a bunch of uncompressed HD editing setups in the house, MAYBE we'll have something to look at when we get back...

Hey Mike,

I get back from NAB Friday afternoon and then have eight days of shooting starting Saturday morning, so I won't be able to make that weekend.

I will be using my Red to shoot my own projects and as camera for hire.

Wow, I must have been living under a rock and missed hearing about this rig! Now I have to wait until next week to see how long it will take to get one since I missed the initial list.

We are getting ready to launch a production house in Houston and were preparing to buy several Panasonic HVX200s. With this camera on the horizon that idea might be out the window!

Hi, all -- I'm just in lowly College Station and am don't even expect to get on the order list for another year or so, but I'd love to hook up with people in the Red crowd. Can non-Red orderers join the club?

Man, I can't get away from school this weekend. I'll be in town in two weeks, but only from Thursday to Friday. Maybe we can still try to set something up?

Nice to see a few Houstonians in this crowd of mostly Austinites. It would be nice to be able to cross rent with you guys on occasion. When are you scheduled to get your cameras? We won't get ours until Nov/Dec. I'm dying to do some compositing tests. I hope Plus 8 (Panavision) embraces the revolution and adds REDs to their inventory.

I'm in dallas and I've got in shoot in late May that could really make good use of the 4k image size. I'd love to rent a camera from anyone in Texas who will have one available around that time.

Please message me if you've got one and want to make some money off of it. And certainly a trip to Dallas from whereever you are would be included.

I replied to you. I am in Dallas. Slated for October delivery.
Maybe another RED shooter is closer to May?

Aloha,

Well NAB has come and gone. What's the word on an Austin Red get together?

Did anyone else go to NAB and see the cameras and footage. I know Mike Curtis was there. Saw him a couple times, but never had the chance to talk. Anyone else?

I am a student at SFA and have some experience with dvpro production using an older model sony dv cam. I shot docu still for my school feature length film along with continuity, art direction, and camera grabs for end titles. If a meeting time shows up that I can make I would love to join in if i could get a ride.

P.S.

I am absolutely stoked about this camera.

I'm a freelance cinematographer based in Austin. I shoot almost exclusively high level stock imagery for my personal collection represented by Getty Images. I just sold my Arri 2C 35mm package and am looking hard at the Red One, but also other HD packages in 1080 and 720. Anyone out there who would meet and visit with me about this switch? I plan to purchase my own package and travel with it. It's critical I select the correct camera, but I'm very new to the electronic side of things.

No board for New Mexico yet, so I'm trolling Texas (I'm from Texas) to see what's available. My husband is the writer/director of our team, and I'm producing. We're looking for a Red One, or a DP with one, for a micro-budget feature shoot, dates TBD. We'd rather not wait to receive a Red One, so if someone out there has one and is interested in selling, let me know (2nd choice would be to hire someone with a Red One, as the DP...not sure if our budget can handle this, though).

Thanks.

Hey gang,

I'm an independent Austin filmmaker (red reservation holder #396) and I was curious is anyone else out there would be interested in creating a "RedShare" program where we could call on each other for tradeout days on 2 camera shoots? would be a lot cheaper than each of us renting from each other.

obviously we'd want to start off heavily (heavily!) insured and maybe even start out by piggybacking on each others projects to make sure nothing goes wrong ...but it seemed like it might be a cheap way to get more bang for buck out of our Red bucks.

Post here is you're interested, and if we gen up enough interest, I'll create a mailing list or something.

---

Also, what happened to the idea of a meet-up? anyone still interested?

I'm game, and it sounds like (reading the forum) that a venue down south would be preferred...?

I would prefer a Thursday evening, myself, but am usually fairly flexible.
What's better for everyone else, weekend or midweek?

I'm here in Houston as a producer looking for a DoP with a red for shooting later this year. Just finishing up a feature I shot end of last year with an Andromeda system. Trying to stay on the cutting edge...

Will also have a few features next year. I like to plan ahead on what I will be working with so I can get post ready.

by the way Mike Curtis thanks for the help at SXSW!

By the way, was there ever a meet of redusers in Austin? If it can be planned on a weekend I would certainly drive over. Maybe Mike can bring some 4K footage to look at....

Hey REMY, I was really bummed when I had the be out of town when "The Waiter" screend at WF. I really want to see it, the trailer looked great.

Jason called a few weeks ago and said you guys had a project coming up and wanted to talk with me about it. My RED will be in the January 10th shipment.

Will probably be doing a showing at my house in the near future. Just waiting on Audio to be truly finished. Drop me an e-mail so we can meet.

Would also like to get together with anyone else in TX that is getting a RED. Maybe we can try to get this meeting together in Austin now that the cameras have been released.

Mike, you are welcome to come spend a few hours putting mine through the paces once it arrives, see how it looks/shoots/feels. I'm an old hat at the electronics/digital stuff -- it's the DP stuff (zone system, place and fall and all that jazz) that throws me for a loop.

Hi there. Glad to see and know there RED Users and filmmakers out this way.

Having only lived here for about a month in the Dallas area I am at a loss.

I was curious if anyone knew of a good production company to connect with.

Also if you ever need a 1st AC or 2nd AC I can be of great help.

Hey fellow dfw/tx filmmakers. I'm in Dallas, I own some lighting and support, but usually rent cam packages. It's interesting to see how many epic/scarlet owner ops there are here that I've never met...Cheers
