Just what the title asks. I'd like to play around with the Final Cut Studio 2 now that it has built in Redcode support but I need some raw files with the wrappers. I know Jim posted some .R3D Raw footage but no wrappers. FCS2 won't be able to view the footage without it. I'd use the new Redcine release but I'm still on a PowerPC G5 waiting for the new release of Intel Mac Pros.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

This is the last shot in the warehouse clip I just posted, nothing fancy, just a bit of movement and a rack focus: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HPEME47D It's 202MB ZIP file with the R3D and QT wrappers.
Open the R3D files Jim posted in RED Alert! and hit [Command-M].
If his system is like our G5 PPC then RedAlert won't run.

Indeed, but then the QuickTime codec would not run either. Our software only works on modern Intel (or AMD) based systems.

Thanks for posting this. My problem is exactly as you state. I have a G5 not an Intel machine. I was going to upgrade last spring but the Mac Pro upgrade was pretty lame and I decided to wait. Thank God the new machines are due out any day. I can't wait much longer. This time around the Mac Pro is going to get a really nice upgrade. The crappy Nvidia 7800GS as been overdue for retirement for a long time!!

Why is Apple always "last century" when it comes to video cards. That's annoying. I am looking forward to a new Mac though.

I have about 40 minutes of material which I hope to make available asap, a mixture of long shots, pans, night shots, etc... I just need to process it and fix some final details for my presentation and then I will place make all material available....
The material was taken with RED 48# whenit came for a visit in Stockholm, I also need to get permission from the actors and actresses involved....
.r3d + qt files

mahvo, how will you be doing that? 40 minutes comes to 64gb of data

I have access to a gigbit net in my university also have had offers from other people with large bandwidth. I also will cut down the material alot it is just tests... so maybe circa 30GB in total we will see need to get my act togther and present my findings first...

Shawn, how about posting a short clip, a la Jannard? just for the mean time... Besides, it would be good marketing for your DVDs. :gun:

Well I'm bummed, I've been planning a great DVD with BTS of one of my shoots, and two full DVDs of choice R3D files. But if this other guys posts 30gb for free, I'm afraid I'd sell 10 copies instead of 500.
Due to my unfortunate shortage of pre-Red contacts (being mitigated weekly), I'm probably the only Red holder who has yet to rent his camera. Now i'm not trying to have a pity-party, I'm on the verge of 3 different 4-6 week contracts and three other small ones (my luck would be that all three long-termers want it at the same time).
But, instead of having my camera renting like most other Red holders I know, I've been posting Red footage here for two months, I routinely get thousands of hits for every single clip I post, and I've posted more than nearly everyone else combined, but tons of accolades don't pay off the bank ya know? My plan was aforementioned DVD to get me by until my rentals could spark. I haven't finished the DVD yet, since Jim & Co had said they'd release RedCine for a while *privately* before going public, so I knew I had warning. Well out of the blue Jarred drops it publicly on one fell night, so I'm a bit caught off guard.
What dvd you think people would want from me?

Shawn,
Do you have an idea on how much you plan to charge?
One thing I would like to see on the DVD is at least one shot with a color chart up front.
Something that might bring more interest is if you also include a DVD with some HD content authored as an HD DVD. I am willing to donate my services to get a simple HD DVD image. Perhaps you can color grade a couple of minutes of footage, a mini-montage if you will, then I will encode and author. You can burn onto a DVD-R and it should play in any HD DVD player. Your other discs would include the original R3D files.
PM me if you are interested.

If you just do it now Shawn I am sure a lot of people will buy it, the longer you wait the fewer will need it. I would have bought one myself but I am still waiting for a new line of intel Mac pros... (haven´t got any intel yet)

Shawn,
I'm sure several people would pay 1$ a clip to a website via paypal or credit card to download you R3D clips now to play with in Redcine. Very few people have a RED camera currently. We need good footage. DVDs will be too slow and always be outdated. Sign up with a service today. Anybody have some good suggestions where where Shawn could do this?

Shawn, the others have some great suggestions. It doesn't matter if you aren't ready to ship right now; set up a sale TODAY!!!
Since I don't know anything about selling downloads, I would suggest an eBay fixed price auction with a limited amount of DVDs. When people know that there is a limited inventory, they're more likely to act fast.
Set a low price that they can't refuse. Since everyone knows that more footage will become available soon, they're not going to want to pay a lot.
Set a minimum of Priority shipping so that you can use the free shipping materials from USPS. Pick the materials up at the post office, and do your shipping online. Be sure to set up a pickup the day before any shipments go out. It's free and they can pick them up right at your doorstep! (or anywhere else you specify)
I would suggest doing just one DVD with some nice shots with movement, some poorly lit/exposed shots, and at least one shot that no one has seen (which would include a color chart). This shot would preferably contain humans as well as camera and subject movement. Maybe you could hit the beach for some surfing action...
I would try to keep the shots short and to a minimum for faster replicating. If you don't have access to a replicator, have friends and family with burners help you make copies.
The main point is that you need to post a sale RIGHT NOW, and then you can get the new footage shot and get everything ready for shipping this weekend. Make it clear in your sale that you are getting started out in the industry and that you are selling these DVDs to help make your camera payments. I know that everyone here is thankful for your generosity in posting your work and I'm sure they'd love to help you out. Best of luck!

Hi Shawn, If you're going to do this, I think it would be nice to have some charts as well as the great outdoors scenes we've come to expect from you :-).
If you do have charts in your Red .R3D compilation, I'd love to see some of these: http://www.bealecorner.org/red/test-patterns/
If you print these out at home, Red probably has too much resolution for a single letter-sized sheet to really test it, but of course you can just frame wider and have multiple charts in a frame. The more setup info you include, the better (lens, focal length, f-stop, distance to chart, shutter speed, lighting setup, light meter reading). Another valuable test is just a dark clip with the lens cap on.
I know all too well that getting a single good chart shot can take hours of setup & work and the payback is questionable. But if you offer your .R3D DVD very soon, I'll bet you have a lot of takers, I'm certainly interested.

Shawn I think you should start your own thread and get a compiled list of what people want a go with what you think is quickest and cheapest for you to do. I agree with the HD DVD route. That sounds good. But Downloading clips for cheap is also great stuff.

I'd be interested. My serial number is 2000+. So I will be waiting awhile. At least with early footage I would be able to work out some of the kinks in my workflow.

I downloaded and have been playing with these. I'm curious about the QTs. The H version seems a lot more raw while he other two almost seem to have a LUT applied. How is it that QuickTime would handle these differently?

I thought by not including the RSX file it would not apply the changes in the reference files, but I was wrong. I guess you could open the R3D file in red alert, reset everything and then update the quicktime reference files.

So any other users care to post some R3d files? Shawn your stuff rocks so the quicker you act - even if its some adhock pay per clip via pay pal or something id be fine with that.
The way I see it there are a large number of eager people wanting to test the footage and a suitable workflow but there simply is nothing in the way of R3d files available.

Does RED generate color bars? If so, could someone post a R3D frame of color bars? Or maybe the RED team could render one if the camera can't.

I would still have some work to do to make my DVD sellable, so I am going to wait and see what comes out of LART before doing anything further.

Hey Shawn,
What exactly would your DVD have? Is it just raw footage or are you planning on giving us shmick fully worked 1080p or 720p H264 along with an assortment of the original raw files.
Kind of like a before and after so we know what’s possible and can muck around (possibly in a vein attempt) to get the raws up to the finished standard.
If you did it that way it shouldn’t matter what R3d files are released by others as your product offers something infinitely more valuable.

Red generates all kinds of reference bars (SMPTE BARS, Luminance and Chrominance Ramps, and a Chip Chart), but they are only for setting up your monitors, there is no way to record them (though I wish there was). There's a lot of variables that can change the picture when you're exporting in either Red Alert or Redcine. It would be nice to be able to record reference bars and push it through you post chain to see where changes in colour, brightness and contrast happen and what can be done to compensate. The best quality control right now is to shoot a DSC ChromaDuMonde chart during prep and at certain times during production to test the post chain.
