Has anyone tested this lens yet?? It looks like a pretty nice lower cost alternative to the Optimo 17-80. Mathematically it looks like it would be fine for a RED-MX. Has anyone tried it? Would it blend well with the Arri Ultra Primes?

Used it on a History Channel Promo along with the 45-240 Alura, recently. Mechanically, they're great and they're not as huge as an optimo. We intercut them with a Optimo 24-290. We were working with a lot heavy flares from the sun and the flaring and bokeh were quite pleasing and organic. Shot mostly between a 2.8-4.0. Mechanically, my AC love pulling on them. Didn't do any objective tests. Overall, the quality was all class glass. It was smaller than the red 18-80 and could be used hand held with the right rig and a strong set of arms.

So did it intercut with the 24-290 well? How much grading was needed later to match? How do the Aluras match to Cooke lenses?

Thanks Ned!
I just bought the 18-80mm . She is a beauty! I may buy the 45-250 if this one does well.

Alura 18-80 is a nice lens. Not as sharp as the Optimo and perhaps a bit less contrasty, but very clean and nice bokeh. About 10lbs so not too bad weight wise. Very good close focus, and the marks are nicely spaced. It will cover 5k FF, unlike the Optimo. We were able to do lots of handheld with it on an Epic, no problem. Lighter than an MX with Master Primes...

The 18-80 reportedly slightly Vignettes at 18mm... doies anyone know if the 45 - 250 will cover 5K on EPIC?
