Or how to get more than 320 by 240 with immediate start.

looking for experience in putting together the best results of video encoded on the web

with all the different players not being supported by all users, decided to look at flash as a solution based on its broad userbase

seems like they have a pretty sweet codec, ON2 VP6 for getting fairly large movies down to acceptable streams (need flash player 8 or later)

put this post up to see if there would be people with more info on this here

I like what flash can do, but am not strong in understanding action script, if there are solutions that functions like a plugin to fcp to simply export something to a flash based movie that would be cool.

any thoughts on any or all of this is greatly appreciated

If you have flash installed on your computer, you can choose to export your movie to a FLV file which is a flash video file, from Quicktime.
Then you can incorporate your FLV in a flash file (fla.) or insert it directly in an HTML page very easy from Dreamweaver.

Hi Agwah, the On2 stuff is built into Flash 8 and 9 and is the normal output for video from Flash now and pretty much gives the best results. I wouldn't worry too much about users not having Flash 8 or higher. The turnover for people upgrading Flash is good, especially compared to most other third party add ons for browsers. With Youtube and co it's even more likely that you can deliver to the masses at 8 or more.

There are a few tricks you can use however to detect whether a user has 8 or more however, and if they don't have an uptodate player installed then you can load a different movie in its place. It all depends on your target audience though. If they are individuals from forums such as this then it's unlikely you would need to worry about delivering the movie in a lower version.

As for exporting from Quicktime I can't say I've ever done it. But if you own a copy of Flash then it isn't a problem. You can even include the player facilities for the movie direct from flash and handle the streaming and so on, you can also download template players or make your own bespoke one for your website. You won't need to know much actionscript to get up and running either it's all pretty much WYSIWYG.

For me Flash movies have become one of Flash's strongest assets in recent years and has surpassed Quicktime et al for being a reliable, secure and effective method of delivering low res video to a mass audience.

Also have you tried using the ON2 Personal Eidition for VP7?

LINK (http://www.on2.com/downloads/vp7-personal/)

If it works for what you want then purchase it afterwards. I don't think there are any watermarks or 30 day trial type things associated with it. The only thing they stipulate is that it cannot be used for Commercial use, in which case you'd just upgrade when you need to.
