Hi Everyone,

I tried to do some searching, but came up empty. I'm having so issues with my playback out of my red rocket card appearing choppy and running behind what I'm seeing and hearing out of my workstation. I'm playing out to a Panasonic LH1700W. Running a 2.66mhz quad with 8gb ram. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? I just purchased storm, so I'm wondering if this is normal. I sure hope not.

rocket firmware up to date? what's the drive/connection speed you are reading the r3d off of? does the same thing happen in RCX?

Just installed everything. My footage is on an internal 7200rpm drive. RCX plays the clip perfect, except for the ref audio is not matching the actors lips.

For lipsync, try momentarily stopping/starting playback in RCX.
If RCX is playing perfect, looks like a Storm issue. I noticed the same thing, couldn't get full performance out of Storm, but didn't try very hard. Are there quality settings like in RCX where you can dumb it down a bit? At 1080 you really only need half res or less.

I just got started working with it, but that was the first thing I tried looking for. But I came up empty so far. Lame!!! Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

My graphics card is in slot 1, and my RED Rocket card is in slot 4.

So there is a spot on the viewer that allows you to bring the resolution down the 1/16, which seems to only effect the image on my desktop, not broadcast monitor. This is allowing the footage to play a little smoother, but it still tends to get behind after a few seconds of playing, and will continue to play on my monitor after I have hit stop until the monitor catches up, and is still a tad jittery. My Red Rocket card is in a x8 slot. But, is it in the right slot?

try putting it in slot 2, next to video card and see if that helps.

Slot two is taken up by the fan of the video card. it's an ATY Radeon x1900.

Hiya,

I have to chime in. I'm having the exact same problem. I'm running off a Hackintosh, but situation is exactly the same. Everything works perfect in RCX and Resolve (I mean it roundtrips to my decklink realtime just fine), but the video from the Rocket's output lags on Storm. My Rocket has 16x lanes available in its current slot, everything should be fine.

Ideas?

P.S. I'm running off a RAID5 revving at 350/Mbs both ways, tried a variety of monitors to see if PsF or refresh rate was the culprit, that's not it either. Rocket firmware is the latest compatible with Storm, matching Rocket drivers. 8gb of ram, quad hyperthreaded i7, Mac OS 10.6.6.

The problem is your hard drives cannot keep up. You need a raid system to run REDCINE or STORM. Try striping at least 4 drives in RAID 0 together and you won't have a problem.

I am running 16 fibre drives on AVID ISIS and have no problem with this

I'm working with test footage off of a secondary internal drive. Footage plays just fine in RCX, but the audio lags. But playback in Storm isn't smooth at all. It seems like the audio is synced the whole time, but the video is just really jittery.

Even some of the worst internal drives should be fast enough for playback. Transcoding : where you're both writing and reading at the same time is entirely different story... but for the purpose our specific problem, I doubt a drive bottleneck is the culprit. And again, I'm experiencing the same choppiness off my RAID5.

I just wish someone would start by denying or confirming whether this is normal behavior for Storm.

Anyone?

I agree. This piece of software was supposed to be the next big thing, and I can't even get it to play footage correctly, or display a freaking histogram. I'm really close to throwing in the towel.

Well, even with this bug (and a few others still) this software IS still the next big thing. Especially with what's planned all the way to version 2.0. Don't give up yet. Have you tried calling the Foundry? They're super nice and have great customer service.

So much for great customer service. "Storm does not include any telephone support." was the response I got from them. Thanks guys!!!!!

We do try to keep up on the RED User (and other) forums but I would encourage you to sign up to our STORM mailing list which is managed by our support team http://support.thefoundry.co.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/storm-users and is a good place to post issues and hear responses to other posts.

We certainly recognise the need to have a dependable and reliable workflow solution and I apologise if STORM is not yet meeting your needs but am confident we can get there.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have further concerns.
