Hi,

I tried to output a HD 720 or 1080 Quicktime file from Jim' r3d files within Redcine and I always get the message "Faile to write frame 0", whatever the codec (H264, Avid DNxhd, etc...). I'm on Windows XP, Quiktime 7.1 updated. The Cineon, DPX, JPEG outputs perform great. I tried resizing within Redcine or with Quicktime, it doesn't change anything... Any ideas please ?

Thanks,

Kristin

quicktime is now at 7.2.1...that may be the problem. i'm not running redcine on a PC, so i really couldn't help you. i'll render out a 720 h264 on the mac side and see what i got.

in terms of color correction, did you do any major curves or settings? what quality of quicktime were you rendering? highest, normal, etc.?

Thanks for the interest. I updated to QT 7.3, the problem is still here. For the quality settings, I tried all, same problem. I didn't change the colors, etc... just a change of size (fit width) to fit 720p.

Lucas, where are the log files written, I can't find them in the output folder or in the Program files/Redcine folder. Thanks for your help !

OK thanks anyway for the look ! I'll wait for the next release of Redcine, maybe things will get better ! Except this problem, I really appreciate the fact that the Red team makes this software freely available for everyone.

Cheers

Which folder were you outputting to? It sounds like it might not like the location you are trying to create the movie in. Try a path with simple characters in it (no accents etc.).

Ok... I now cannot export any QT with any setting.. all just 1st frame..

img seq are fine.

Is this a gfx card issue? seems wierd as img seq works fine.

I got this error when I tried to output to the same place with the same name as a previous output. Have you tried outputting to a completely different place with a different name?

Otherwise, I'm unsure what it could be.

Thanks guys,

I succeeded in exporting a QT file when outputting the file to another folder like suggested. But then I have the same problem as others, ie only the first frozen frame of the clip, whatever the codec.

I hope there will be an avi export solution for PC users !

Thanks again for your help !

Sorry not sure of my idea, but what do you have in the keyframe field?

CineForm codec must be set to 1 keyframe...

Totaly aggree with you, redcine MUST ouptput to avi, and I don't understand what are the reasons why it doesn't have it at the moment.

Sorry not sure of my idea, but what do you have in the keyframe field?

CineForm codec must be set to 1 keyframe...

We found there is another tiny bug in RedCine QT engine that uses the decoder flags to determine whether the encoding should offer keyframes. The CineForm codec is unusual as it can decode long GOP but only encodes with a keyframe of 1 (in QT.) The flags do reflect this, and it is correctly handled in other QT applications. The user fix is to manually set the keyframe length to 1.
