I just got back from seeing this film. I had read the book a while ago and was expecting the film to not live up to such a great piece of writing. Well, what I got was without a doubt one of the magnificant masterpieces of modern cinema. I was so blown away by this film that I was at a loss for words.. The entire film was so nuanced in nature, suggesting very little through lighting, sound or cinematography that it left you drawing upon your own intrinsic feelings the entire way.

If any of you guys in LaLa land know someone envolved in this film, do me a favour and give them a big pat on the back.

I'm glad someone else liked it. This film's getting far worse reviews than it deserves, and far less publicity, too.

To be honest, I wasn't entirely crazy about it, but it was very beautiful and very entertaining, with a few spectacular scenes. I loved the cinematography and most of the art design, the script was okay, too, but I expected a bit more from Tykwer as a director after Run Lola Run.

the movie was shot here, in barcelona... We were shooting "Salvador puig antich" while they were shooting at the same time, close to our shooting...
It was a nightmare finding all of their and our trucks on the same street xD
We were shooting in HD, and our focus puller once went to the wrong truck, and five minutes later he was screaming "CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN ME WHEN WE SWITCHED TO 35MM.????"

"CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN ME WHEN WE SWITCHED TO 35MM.????"

That is priceless.

I have to admit that "The Perfume" is a great movie - I really enjoyed it a lot. For me they perfectly visualized the smells on screen. I guess some of the critics had problems with the strange ending, but this is how it ends in the book, so why bothering?

I am also curious what they did with all the naked scenes in the US? Have they been cut out or reshot? Here in Europe you could see a lot of breast (and more) and naked people, especially in the final scene. It was done in a very aesthetic way and I was really impressed how Tywker captured the mass scene at the end.
