View Full Version : December deliveries...

We are going to be a bit late on the December deliveries due to fine tuning and production ramp up of the new lens mount. I can't tell you an exact date that we will begin shipping but it should still be early in the month and we do expect to get the full amount of scheduled cameras out by month end. The delay should not affect future delivery schedule.
Good news is many more features enabled for serial #100+ deliveries and a much more solid platform. Plus the image has improved. A little late but worth the wait...
We appreciate your patience.

Poor people at RED, no christmas with families and no happy new years eve, just work work and more work - but at my end the effort is very much appreciated!
Thanks for the update, I will expect mine sometime early on new years eve, and believe me it will be very very welcome....
BTW: you forgot to say that all things can and will change, but we know that by now ;-)

My feature is going in mid-March so I hope I receive mine in time. I would hate to shoot with the F900, especially with guaranteed theatrical & 35mm blow ups. But my co-producer owns 5 of them so the only cost is what I lose in dynamic range and resolution. Once Red delivers, he'll have 5 doorstops.

Last we heard #101-600
Pretty ambitious, but they have known for some time, and probably have prepared for it. (next batch - I believe 700 units was slated to start shipping december 30th)

If you have "guaranteed theatrical & 35mm blow ups" I'm sure you will find some RED owner to step up and help you out. But with luck, you'll have your own.

It would mean that anything in the 101-200 and 201-600 batch will start shipping sometime in december, according to Jim´s post sometime early december, and all items by december 30th.
But as we know by now, all things can and will change... -you can count on it!

Does this mean we will see the Nikon mount very soon as the PL mount is complete? What do we do if we would like to wait for the Nikon mount. Do we need to start over in line or can we get it shipped to us when it is ready?
Thanks!

Jim, the last update I saw for cameras 201-600 was December 10th. Is that now pushed off. Will those cameras still ship out by the end of December? If so, that is better than I thought due to changes in the PL mount. I had a feeling we might be looking at January 08. What a Christmas gift if it arrives by end of December.
Thanks,
Steve

Sorry but I find this a bit vague. My number is 441 so when am I going to get asked about transferring the money? When do I get more info on the exact delivery date?
I was planning on picking the camera up when it was ready but end of December is possibly the worst time to travel overseas - probably the worst time for shipments as well - so basically I am looking at beginning of January, right?

Sander, from what I understand your camera will be ready in the later part of december. You could pick it up in January if you wish. We have been given 30 days to pay... or you can wait till all feature sets have been implemented and I believe there is a third option-- search Brent@REDs' posts.
Hope this helps-- but if I am wrong please correct me RED TEAM

2. Do cams 201-600 still ship before December's end?

Right now we are focused on finishing the new lens mount. We are almost there. When we get it done and it passes Jarred's torture testing, we will begin production. Camera bodies are lined up waiting for the lens mount. We can't give too much detail on production until the lens mount is finished. Trust me, we are working overtime to get this done.

Understood. I was just curious if by end of the month you were referring to cameras 201-600 and it looks like you were which is really great. Obviously if the new mount has issues and needs further tweaking, then we may be in for another delay. But sounds like the cameras themselves are ready to go which is great news!

Just totally random, because I want to double check, if you order the Nikon mount (when it is available) the camera still ships to you with the PL mount right? So you have both PL and optional Nikon mount to replace it when needed....if that makes sense, ha

Thing is, I emailed RED about payment about a week ago and then I was told they were on a production hold. End of December is in about 30 days or at least in a week it is so within a week I am asked to transfer the money? OR is RED going to fix the mount first before anything happens?

The only reason your camera will be crying is because it wants to go out and shoot something. You would be best to oblige.
Back on topic: To sum up the evening's events, there is a possibility that things will get back on track in December but only if the mount issues are worked out. There is a chance that cameras through serial #600 could be in their owners hands by january 1st. Again, this is all dependent on mount and any other issues that might pop up.

Well, they are supposed to ship 700 units a month starting January, what better way of practicing than shipping 500 in december, they have planned the ramp up for some time, so I say they are probably prepared for it. But as we know, everything can change and we can count on it changing...
I agree about the not counting on it, I am not going to count on anything/rent anything or schedule anything until the camera is here beside me - working.

Oli, I think Jim's position right now is that their priority is getting the new mount fixed and if all goes well they will resume shipping in December. But he is not committing to it right now and maybe for good reason. He doesn't want to compromise that lens mount just to make a shipping date. It's tough waiting this out for sure, but that's all we can do right now as these guys work hard to make sure there are as few issues as possible.

Dear RED TEAM;
I have been following you guys, long before I booked my camera #958.
I am right now configurating my accesories list to book them. I am not in a rush, but there is something that really worries me.
No one talks, about the overheating that the camera suffers after a few minutes of recording. Is that problem being sort out? or is that the way we will have to work?,(shoot a few minutes-wait a bit to cool down).
I also will take the oportunity, to ask for the best dealer in USA for an
O connors tripot.
Thanks guys for being all the time out there.

It's been discussed a lot. Jim has posted on the subject many times. It's not an issue to worry about provided you don't need to record in absolute silence at noon in summer in the middle of a desert.. The camera gets hot, but then so do we.. :-)

I can't wait to get my RED, it will be a while still but I mean I've been just so excited by this camera since I heard of it back in April. I didn't really think that this soon someone would make a rival to 35mm film cameras that I could actually afford. I thought that was still a ways off. Then I heard of the RED and the idea that I could at least be shooting with a camera that would give me 100% professional results allows me to worry about the script and the story, not the camera, so I know if I come up with a great script and put together a talented team, I can make a great movie and nobody will say, "That was pretty good, I mean considering what you had to work with." No thanks, haha.

Just a thought.... It seems that the lens mount has only slowed down to Jarred beating on a lens mount a bit. So i would assume since Jim said there is a line of cameras waiting that the rest of RED team is cranking out the 2800 or so cameras on order. With this in mind once the lens mount is finished the orders should be coming out of there as fast as they can manufacture the sturdier lens mount, attach to the RED and box them up. So once the first orders come out with the new lens mount they should easily be able to match delivery dates that were last posted. Then again this is just me speculating...
