I am currently playing around with 90GB of material which I shot in Stockholm a few weeks ago. I will be presenting my finding s to the DOP and Producers in Sweden soon.

I am currently playing around with FCP...SCRATCH workflow. I do not have access to a camera directly, I was wondering is it possible to input a REEL number in the CF cards or does it have to be done manually in FCP like I have been testing.

If you have the latest version of Red Alert (1.3.2 or later) the QT proxies it creates already have a reel number without adding it manually in FCP.

Nick is correct. You can regenerate your QuickTimes with RA to get a reel number into FCP. Obviously the camera will do this to in the very near future.

Scratch & REDCINE should automatically track the reel number as well.

When you regenerate the reference QuickTimes in Red Alert, it also swaps the timecode track in the QuickTime to be the timecode instead of the edge-code, giving each clip unique timecode instead of all starting from 01:00:00:00 as the camera generated proxies do.

That depends on what preference you set in the camera when you recorded the clip. If you set the camera to external (edge / time of day) timecode then it will do this, otherwise it will do the run record timecode (as you found out).

Future versions will allow you to pick which timecode track you want in case you don't want the default (although this should rarely be needed if you setup the production right, which you really should do)

We thought this was probably the case, but didn't have time to work out how to change the camera setting in the middle of a busy shoot!
