Hey guys, I'm trying to set up Resolve 8 on my MBP for On-Set Grading, but I keep getting this error message:
http://www.swissfilmmakers.com/hosted/cuda.png
"No CUDA Acceleration Hardware Detected!..."
I'm running the latest 17' MBP with an SSD as boot drive. Mac OS X 10.6.8, latest CUDA driver, version 4.0.19. Any ideas where to start looking?
Thanks!

CUDA is NVIDIA thing that means need an older MBP with Nvidia card on to run Resolve...
or you can get an expansion enclosure to fill it with CUDA compatible cards...

Is it the latest MBP with thunderbolt port?
You could use the thunderbolt and go to a external TB PCIe expansion chaise and put and NVIDIA card in there... I think.
But not sure if the TBILISI expansion chaises are out yet.

Link to Sonnet who will do the expansion chaises

Apple dropped CUDA (NVIDIA) cards for OpenGL (ATI). I thought version 8 of Resolve would run with OpenGL cards though (without a few features). Maybe someone from Blackmagic will chime in...

Try installing OSX 10.6.7

Although the Blackmagic website says it now does support Open CL to use on macbookpros.

Thanks for all your quick replies guys. I know the MBP doesn't feature an NVIDIA card, but it should work anyway - this is from the other thread about the features of Resolve 8 (at least that's how I read it):
OpenCL based processing, while not as powerful as CUDA™ processing also used on DaVinci Resolve, does allow a much wider range of computers that can be used for color grading. Now Apple iMac™ and MacBook Pro™ series computers can be used for real time grading, allowing customers to use the computer hardware they already have. DaVinci Resolve 8 running on a MacBook Pro is a perfect on set color grading tool.
@ Steve: yes, it's the latest MBP, and I'll definitely look into expansion chassis as soon as they're out. AFAIK there is no Thunderbolt chassis available yet.
@ Brandon: yeah, that's what I thought (see above quote).

I'd go back to Blackmagic and query the actual specs for MBPs since there saying it should work.
Expansion chasies will be interesting, especially with a RED Rocket them daisy chained to some TB hard drives
:-)

Hi Tobias,
I have exactly the same problem. I am dealing with black Magic support for that.
I will keep you informed.

Heheh, yeah that'll be interesting... I'll remain sceptical for now, but if works fine, I'm all in.

Here is the solution from DaVinci Help :
open the Preferences window. Check the Debug tab, and if you have anything there, remove it. Then, whether you did
anything in Debug or not, Save the Preferences, exit Resolve, then restart
Resolve
It worked for me.

Great, thanks Olivier, I'll try that first thing tomorrow morning.

Don't you have to have latest LionX os installed to be able to use resolve 8 on latest macbookpro Ati card?

Why can't they release it for windows? A HP EliteBook with dreamcolor is a much better portable dedicated grading tool then a MPB.
And it has a quadro card.

Hi guys, please refer to the config guide on the BMD support web site to see details of Resolve 8.0 configuration on MBP and iMac with Snow Leopard.
I have tested the new 17" MBP with the soon to ship UltraStudio 3D using ThunderBolt and I expect this will become a popular on set DIT and DOP tool.
For now, use the current iMac or MBP as sold on the Apple store.

Peter, are you at liberty to say how far away is the UltraStudio 3D from shipping? Is the July date on schedule?

Sorry. I don't know and could not say if I did. It's worth waiting for though.

Thanks Peter, didn't see it there, but I guess I read a bit too quickly... :)
Can't wait for the UltraStudio 3D to ship, will buy it immediately. It's an amazing deal...

How about performance with the new Macbook Pro 17"? Does it work realtime or near realtime with 1080 Prores material, for example?
