I just finished giving it a go and the whole piece is a great watch. Spielberg isn't quite ready to move on, but RED get's a humorous mention as a result of a question from Cameron.

It's at the 1:34:04 mark. I think you have to start watching at around 1:33:34 and let it play into it. Edit: Full event is the first video you can click when you go to the DGA page (thanks George).

Enjoy!

[2nd Edit] I posted this on the second page, too, but for those of you who read this post first:

Favrau is doing his own interviews for the EPK for Cowboys & Aliens, and they've released two sets of clips from these interviews.

The most recent set, with Spielberg, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard is here: http://www.slashfilm.com/video-director-jon-favreau-interviews-steven-spielberg-ron-howard-brian-grazer/

If you only watch one (they're all short) watch the one about John Ford. Amazing.

Earlier set, with Harrison Ford (and looking the best/happiest he has in a while in interviews). http://www.slashfilm.com/jon-favreau-interviews-harrison-ford/

What a couple of weeks for great interviews with my favorite people.

Enjoy!

[Third Edit] And more. Crazy! This one between J.J. Abrams and composer Michael Giacchino (Lost, Up, The Incredibles, Star Trek, Let Me In). http://www.slashfilm.com/watch-hour-conversation-jj-abrams-michael-giacchino/

[Fourth Edit] All the Favreau (many more) interviews are online here now: http://cowboysandaliensinterviews.com/

Hehe... Nice plug for RED in a way.

I totally understand where Spielberg is coming from in regards to the editing and the process or craft involved.

Yeah I mean- he's got no reason to ever shoot digital unless it's necessary. No budget reason no technique reason- he's good at working with film as a medium. No one could watch say ET or Raiders or Jurassic Park and say if only it were shot 4K instead of 35mm it'd be so much better.

A bit tongue in cheek but I agree.

He has no reason to NOT shoot digital (EPIC 5K) other than his "comfort zone".

People accomplish the best things in their lives when they work outside their comfort zones.

He wil get there. And it will be grand.

I think the films carrying the produced by Steven Spielberg credit may eventually be heavy on the digital side, but not sure ones where he is director will anytime soon. At least that has been his stance in the past. Can never say never I suppose.

This was a very inspiring 2 hours. Two of the most prolific filmmakers talking at this casual level is just mesmerizing! Thanks for sharing this.

This was such a treat! I was glued to the screen for 2 hours...He was my biggest inspiration for getting into 3D animation, and shooting live action. To better sum it up...his films were the ones that made me fall in love with cinema, in all aspects of the art form. Thank you for posting Mr. Cook! I don't know how I didn't see this before!

It's not important that he isn't shooting digital right now. It's important that when he talks about digital cameras, he thinks about RED :)

Spielberg says "not for MY movies" . but i´am sure as a producer, there will be lots of EPIC spielberg productions out there.
thanks for posting this, its like a 90 minutes filmschool for free, when spieleberg explains the framing of david lean movies ... amazing words.

Thanks for the link!

Spielberg is one of my favorite filmmakers, can't wait to view this piece.

I would love to see him play with an Epic though, if he hasn't already.
