No Keystone Light, chumps!

My alltime fave is Aventinus (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/schneider-aventinus/2224/), a dopplebock weizen.

Tom, you started this, and your suggestion certainly merits investigation.
Erik: Bitte ein Bit, my brother.
Pilsner Urquell rocks, too. Other honorable mentions are Grolsch and Terrapin Ale (the greatest of the hoppy beers). I feel a bit emasculated, having no pictures to post, so I'll shout my favorite: PAULANER HEFFEWEISSEN!

(and I thought I hated "off-topic!")

Tom Lowe

haha, any hefe is good with me. I've got a couple of awesome hefe glasses and everything. I only bust them out when I have authentic german weizen.

During my time in the army in Bavaria I must have downed about an Olympic swimming pool's worth of various brands of Hefe! ;) Which was always nice when we had to do our 5-mile runs the next morning. ;)

Okay, THE absolutely BEST beer in the world, prepared by devout monks who have taken an eternal, trans-generational vow of poverty and chastity and only live to minutely prepare a precious few unmarked bottles of beer a year... and who one must go in person to pick up at the most remote region of the belgian mountains, while enduring attacks of rabid wolfs and pilfering thieves....

Well, I don't believe in really high quality "beers." High quality beers are called ales in my book -- and my favorite ales are Belgian triples, like from Unibroue in Canada, like La Fin Du Monde and Maudite, for instance, also Trois Pistoles...

I don't know if I could call this one my favorite, but its in my top 10 certainly. It used to be brewed on site at what is my favorite pub (Royal Standard of England in Beaconsfield), but now is craft brewed locally. Just had a pint in September, and its as good as I recall from years past.

Somehow I missed that picture, even though Unibroue is my favorite brewery for sure. They make amazing ales. They're not beers, though, there is a difference ;)

I haven't tried half of those, I don't know, maybe they don't sell them in the States or don't have them where I've been, I've only seen Trois Pistoles, Maudite, La Fin Du Monde, and ... one other, the name escapes me, I can't remember which, but that has me drooling, I want to try the others!

And there are at least 3-4 more not on the picture.

Over here I can get all of those at every corner store in town.

La Fin du Monde is one of my favorite.

The Blanche de Chambly is probably the one other you were thinking about.

Just talking about it and my mouth gets dry. Thats it I'm going to the store...

Jonathan L. Bowen
11-30-2007, 06:58 PM
It wasn't La Blanche de Chambly, it had like a boat on the bottle or something, umm, gosh what was it called. That's bothering me, haha. La Fin Du Monde is my favorite because it has this really nice sweet taste almost, I mean not like sugary but not bitter at all, really a great aftertaste, I think I have to stop by Ralph's and pick up some of that tonight, haha.

Maudite is also good. Trois Pistoles looks too dark when you pour it, and I hate dark beer or ale, but it doesn't at all taste like a dark ale! It's really pleasant.

Gabriel Beaudry
11-30-2007, 07:08 PM
Its a Raftman. Its a smokey beer.

Just came back from the store with a Fin du Monde and a Trois Pistoles.

For those wondering, the price tag is 5.39 for a 750ml bottle.

Just started up my first batch... going into the brewing business when all this post production foolishness goes away.

My favorites in no particular order:

Gulden Draak - somewhere between beer and barley wine. A strong dark ale.

Ommegang Abbey Ale - made by a bunch of wacky upstate New Yorkers, but you'd swear this was made with Belgian water.

Arrogant Bastard Ale - Prettty much anything from Stone Brewing is good stuff, but this is my favorite. Big points for the name as well.

Schlitz - I was dirt poor in college, and the packy on the corner usually had specials on cases. Drinking it brings back good times. Sue me.

Yeah, Double Bastard is good. But the alcohol content makes it not exactly a casual beer. Have to treat it more like drinking a martini. :) I like the Single Bastard (I guess that's what you'd call it?) because I can drink one or two and not have to worry about what happens when I stand up.

Oh, and I'm Home Brewing. My wife is thrilled with the prospect of me cooking vats of semi-rotted vegetation in the kitchen.

They have an "exporting" section on their site, which says:

Autumn 2006 a dream came true when we loaded a full container with 24000 bottles of Nøgne Ø and shipped it to the cradle of modern craftbrewing - the US. Our agent, Sheltonbrothers, are an excellent representative, and they have helped us to distribute our Pale Ale, Brown Ale, IPA, Sasion, #100, Imperial Stout and Dark Horizon to a total of 43 different states. If you aim for more information of outlets please contact one of the Shelton Brothers directly.

So your a home brewer! Wow, that's some serious dedication to the craft, I haven't made that leap. Have you tried to 'emulate' any of your favorites? The place I use has a pretty well tested library of recipes, some are really close. Next time I am up your way I'll drop off a couple of bottles, we have a batch that will be ready for bottling at the end of next week.

Got that right Shawn. And at the very bottom of the state (Oregon) just off of I-5 in the little town of Ashland is the Caldera brewery. Their pale ale is right up there with the best of them. The only one I like better is Samual Smiths Pale Ale out of England. Yummynums.

I've heard of a beer called Green Gorilla, maybe just an urban legend, whose after effects include, unaccounted for disorder in ones bedroom, head and mouth, the latter normally accompanied with a side taste of diced carrotts, unexplained diminished wealth and neat little 'home made pizzas' by one's bed in the morning!! Asking someone what there FAVORITE beer is, is like asking someone what there favorite type of sex is- if the chemistry is right, and it was made with love than it's ALL good. Same thing goes for wine... Depends on your mood. I am a serious beerman, here a few good finds...

From Schlenkerla Brewery- Germany:
