Evin and other connoisseurs,
Please recommend two Nikon zooms along with RED 300 mm tele lens. I know that 17-35 Nikon someone already recommended but did not see recommendation for larger Nikon zoom.

Nikkor 80-200 2.8 ED. Fantastic lens. Great reviews. Holds 2.8 throughout. I've used it on my Cameflex with great success for years.

I had previously posted on another thread concerning whether its a good idea to just cover the range of the primes with a 17/85 Ed zoom?

One big problem I noticed right away was that it is hard to get a set similar to Zeiss where all the lenses are fast below 35mm I couldn’t find a 1.4 Nikon/zeiss etc. in Nikon mount on Ebay or B&H they are all about 2.8. There are several zooms across the same range that are 2.8 all the way through the range also.
Is ther any lens test distinction at 4K between these primes and zooms. sharpness issues or other problems.\
I've owned one of these zoom for several years and used on my Nikon 35 still film camera with very nice results...

Here's a nice lens to fill in between the 17-35 and the 80-200. It's not a constant apreature, though close, but would serve nicely as a variable prime.

Evin,
This review might be of use to some as it describes the various series of the lens.

So how about the Nikkor 35 to 70mm 2.8AF lens?

with the 17/35 and 80/200 we have a three lens set to cover 17mm to 200mm, looks like a person could hope to buy these three in nicer used condition for about $2500.

Very sharp lens, but the push pull zoom is a hard sell for cinema use. There is an MF f3.5 version that's not bad. The 28-70mm 2.8 AFS is awesome but does shift focus a little when zooming so it would be strictly a variable prime.

Sweet! I had been intending to ask Evin his opinion of this very lens.

Hopefully this guys lens was just a bad one. As other reports I've read were not so hard on it. A lens using three aspheric (albeit one of them molded plastic) elements should show better chromatic correction. Ervins tests should help in deciding if still camera zooms in this price range are useable for high rez photog. As with any massed produced still camera lens, try as many examples as you can get your hands on.
