I am looking into buying the Red One and have a few questions.
1. Do you need to have a SSD module or a CF module attached to the camera for it to work?
2. Can you use the red station base and the red station redmag to record onto your own non red SSD drives?
3. Can anyone tell me how long a single red brick powers the camera for?
Thank you in advance for the help.

1. Do you need to have a SSD module or a CF module attached to the camera for it to work?
You need a side CF or SSD module to record to those types of media. If you don't have a side module, you can still record to the RED Drive or RED RAM, both of which are discontinued and would have to be sourced as used from another party.
2. Can you use the red station base and the red station redmag to record onto your own non red SSD drives?
RED STATION base is just a power supply and can power up to 3 RED STATION modules without the need for each to use their own individual AC adapters. The RED STATION modules are for connecting to a computer, they're media readers. The 1.8" SSD Magazines that RED uses have proprietary connectors on them and are not compatible with any off the shelf readers or cables. You will also not be able to use off the shelf (your own non-RED media) on the camera. The only exception to that is the LEXAR 8GB CF cards are compatible with the RED ONE. However, they don't support as many record modes as the 16GB RED CF or other faster RED media does. At this stage in the game, buying CF cards makes little sense, especially the 8GB cards. RED has long discontinued their own 8GB cards. The RED SSD media has a lower cost per GB than the RED 16GB CF cards, however you pay 3X as much for the Side-SSD module as you do the Side-CF module. You must also buy the RED STATION 1.8" Module in order to read the SSD's. No one else makes a device to read them. The RED STATION 2.5" Module uses off the shelf 2.5" HDD's and SSD's, as a lot of people are finding them convenient for backups and data transport. The camera itself can't connect to these modules or record to the standard media.
3. Can anyone tell me how long a single red brick powers the camera for?
90 minutes, give or take a few...
I'd call RED and speak to a Bomb rep..
That's a good idea. You may also want to rent a RED One or find someone local to you that has one to look at. Play with it, get a feel for how it works.

Looks good Chris but give more thought to the Production pack and investigate third party solutions.
Good Luck!

Skip the Base Production Pack. It is a decent price for the included components, but you will be much happier with an Arri standard baseplate that can slide onto an Arri dovetail. If you order the base production pack, the only way to get that base onto a tripod is to purchase the cheese plate for it ($300) or the ALLSTAR dovetail ($350?)... Or you can mount your tripod plate to the bottom of the shoulder dovetail and then that mounts to the bottom of the RED baseplate. This sets your camera higher than it needs to be and puts a lot of slop or play into the whole rig.
You don't need the RED STATION BASE if you're only getting one SSD reader. I recommend getting a spare SSD reader as a backup or putting that $250 toward something else.
If you have some Zeiss lenses as well as ordering one of the RED lenses (which one?), do you need the Nikon mount? For a Nikon mount on the RED One, I recommend the Nikon Pro-Lock mount from Optitek. It's superior to RED's offering and has an aperture ring for G-series lenses. None of the Nikon mounts for the RED One have electronic communication or control, they're all "dumb" mounts.
There are better options out there vs. the Base Production Pack. OTOH, the Base Production Pack may be a good place to start since it's a bargain for what you get. For example, the 19mm hybrid baseplate from Element Technica is $900 by itself... The RED Battery Quickplate is $500 by itself... Just things to consider.

Mr. Kilgroe is correct. Some people have had better luck with the base production pack than others. We've owned three of them at one time or another, and were able to mix-and-match to get two of them that worked really well together. None of ours worked well right out of the box.

Thanks for all the info.
The red lens I am looking into ordering is the 17-50 as I don't have a lense wider then a 50mm. From the zeiss lense I have 50mm, 35mm, 100mm and a 300mm all of which have the nikon mount. I currently own 4 Panasonic P2 camera's and love them all but the edit suite we build is capable of real time 4k editing and we are not using it to it's potential so hence a red camera. I have all the rods if I need to have a longer one, multiple tri-pods and accessories. I will definitely look into other products then the base production pack, it is an attractive price. The Nikon adaptor from red if you use a digital lense you will not be able adjust the f-stop if that is what I am understanding correctly?
