Where are these Canon mounts coming from? I guess if your Bruce you can have what you want. Nice shot though.

can anyone point me out the best settings for shooting
fashion on the epic and get the best movie result (for hd internet
vid) and on the extracted stills. (motionblurwise and so on...)
we light the model with two 4ks and i figured out to shoot
5k ff with 50 fps (redcode 4:1) and a 400th looks pretty good
and gives you more possible stills...
any hints?
thanks.

one option is to use HDRx in a different way.... one track for normal motion.. the short exposure track for sharp stills.

Thats a great trick! Makes total sense. Is there a way to tell what the shutter angle/time is on the X track vs whatever the A track is set to? is it based on the # of stops chosen AND the A track setting?

I'm hoping / thinking we might actually get some specific control over that as the camera's "still" functionality is enabled.

Is it possible to just extract one stream and not the other, I've only seen talk of combining the two tracks.

Yeah, you can totally isolate one track or the other in RCX... then pull stills from that track.
Cake.

Jarred, how would you expose for both? Seriously, curious. I'm FASCINATED by the idea of motion stills together.....

tons of fashion photographers are doing this now because they usually have such control of lighting conditions. They usually do it by a combination of 2 stop HDRX and rating the camera down in ASA to compliment and just keep an eye the top end of exposure... then pushing the footage a stop at the end. The limitation of dynamic range from going down in ASA doesn't really matter much to them as most medium format cameras that they are used to using have a much lower range than the Epic/Scarlet has, those cameras usually land around 11 or 12 stops ( same as most DSLRs ) so they are used to lighting for that range, and the majority of fashion doesn't involve a ton of contrast to begin with. that way they can get 1/48th shutter for motion with normal motion blur, and get 1/192 worth of freezing shutter action.

Just to be clear, you are saying they rate and expose at iso 200? Then use a combination of normal and HDRx for motion and just the HDRx track for the stills?

What would be the best option with scarlet then ? 5K at a slower frame rate ? I guess not many other options.
I will be working on a fashion shoot in a couple of months that could pay for an epic later, but now i must do with what i have.
Two extra questions while i'm at it.
- What kind of lense are most commly used for fashion these days, if i should go on the canon mount ? (50/1.2, 85/1.2 or 135/2)
- The landscape framing seams to get more and more adepts... Do some of you guys shot fashion video/photo vertical a lot or extract vertical pictures from horizontal framing ?
