BUILD 11

I am having issues after powering down, about 30% of the time the camera wont restart again. We hav to pull the power cord wait 30 + seconds and turn camera back on- somtimes this procedure has to be repeated 3-10 times before I can power on the camera again.

I am waiting at least 10 seconds between power off and on.

I would try to reinstall that firmware if you have not already Greg. Let me know if the problem persists-you know where to find me ;)

Thanks Sean,
I am going to do some more tests, but its looking like the issue is related to my power supply. I just switched to battery and it powered right up.

Firmware 11 reinstalled.

same issue...on battery or power supply.

More info:
If I have a fully charged battery on the camera, it will start everytime.

If my battery is at 1/2 charge, the camera wont start.

ALTHOUGH...this doesnt explain why I have the same issue when connected to the power supply????

Out of curiosity, are you using your A/B batteries?

Yes, I am using Hytron 140's...should be plenty of juice even at 1/2 discharged.

but I have this issue with the power supply too (RED Charger)

I have had trouble with high amp loads and hytrons. They have a cut off if you draw too many amps. A D-20 job with flash mags was particularly hard on them. If you have any, try Ni-cads and see if the problem persists. I ended up running ni-cads instead of hytrons and the problems go away. Don't know what to tell you about the power supply issue.....

Look on the charger and see what the max amp output is for the DC port.

its the red charger

Do you have additional equipment powered by the same source when you're booting the camera?

I have come across this same issue on a shoot using both RED batteries and the RED power supply. I just figured it was a bug in build 9.5

Yes a monitor, but I have tried both with and w/o the monitor powered.

I know, but it still should have the little consumer electronics plate on it that tells the specifics of the output.

we can't get cameras to power from charger / AC either now - only the ELPAC AC thing they gave us early folks (because they did not have the cables/firmware for the AC off the chargers at that time) - and batteries

The aux port is 100w
My point was it is made by Red for Red One...why would I even need to look?

The Red team has addressed my immediate issue.

It would be great if you could measure the voltage or even amperage during bootup.
I suspect that the camera requires a peak amperage during startup that the power supply (charger or half charged battery) can't deliver. So the voltage drops and the camera fails.

I did that 15.5 - only dipped .4 Volts on boot

The peak may be too short to measure with standard instruments.

I hope RED headquarters will be able to reproduce the problem and come up with a solution.

By standard instruments, I'm thinking Digital Multimeters? These do not respond fast enough to show any inrush current draw / voltage drop. you would be better off using analog metering for this type of measurement.
