View Full Version : A few stupid Resolve questions, Sorry!

Okay, can't quite get my head around a few things, hoping to get pointed in the right direction:

1. Red clips used multiple times. Imagine a talking head that cuts in and out of an edit. It's the same take so Resolve treats it as a group and the same nodes appear on all instances. If I change one, they all change. Can someone tell me the best way to treat them individually? I got it to work but don't remember how, and if it was the best approach.

2. When round tripping from FCP via XML, the clips appeared to go into Resolve okay but when I render and save a new XML from Resolve, I open it back in FCP and there are lots of gaps that weren't there, plus I seem to only get the first instance of a clip. Similar to point 1, if there are multiple talking heads from the same take, only the first seems to be there, and the rest are offline.

3. Most of the clips coming back into FCP are out of sync or just plain wrong. Perhaps connected to the multiple use of each clip, can't really be sure.

I'm sure these are simple things that when I get it right will work perfectly, but at the moment the results are so unpredictable it's quite frustrating.

Any head start would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Jim

I hardly do FCP XML roundtrip, however to your first problem

1. Right click on any shots that u would like to unlink - right click and select batch copy. It is not the most intuitive name, but there you go
2. You can also create group, by selecting each shot that u want to have the same treatment - right click - create group

Hope it helps..

Hey Jim,

Can you check if your using the FCP easy setups ?

They are at the top left of the render page and is probably the easiest way to fix your issues. The main item you need selected is the unique file names options but the easy setup should auto select this for you.

Hope this helps but let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks for the quick responses!

Rivai, that's great. Pretty sure that's how I got it to work but as you say, the function name is pretty bizarre so I didn't know what else it may be doing! Thanks for that.

Dan, think I cracked it, thanks for the great advice. Actually had to do with the fact that I hadn't batch copied all of the clips and they were going haywire. I was using the easy setup for FCP with unique file names, but had clearly sabotaged it with the replicated clips. Just did a test render and the whole thing is in perfect sync!

Thanks again to both of you for your help, much appreciated!
