When I had the RED one I would always relink to the red quicktime proxies using clipfinder...Now that the epic doesn't create proxies, I am a bit stuck. I would like to grade my project in Color (whether or not I have access to the RED tab or not).

My thought was to export an edl from final cut then open that in redcine...then export those clips as higher quality 2k 4444 at full res or dpx. I have am having a hard time getting redcinex to relink the files. It will do some but not others. No file names have changed. Any thoughts on why this might happen or suggestions for a cleaner workflow?

Thanks in advance.

You can generate proxies for all of your footage with REDCINE X

1 Open the footage in a new BIN in RCX- PRO
2. select all of teh footage
3. in export presets select GENERATE QT WRAPPERS
4. Put them in the same folder as the r3d file (RCX will do this for you)
5. Party in FCP.

By the WAY COLOR READS THE R3D file directly NOT the QT file, but it is limited to 4K so you should only send a 4K proxy to color. ONCE it is in COLOR it does not matter which QT proxy you use, you will be accessing teh FULL R3D DATA.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to generate the qt wrappers, but when they export, they are just displaying as a gray video. Any thoughts on why this might happen?

Made sure everything was installed...still having the same problem. I tried generating qt wrappers for red one footage...works fine. Is there no epic support?

Is there no epic support?

Sorry. No QT wrappers for Epic. I don't recommend using an FCP workflow for Epic footage.

Daniel, I am having the same problem. A friend of mine suggested exporting 2K files out of RCX with a one light color correction to protect your highlights and shadows. From there just do an edit it FCP with 2K and cc in color. Now obviously this is more data and processor intensive, so it is not the most efficient for a lot of people. Is there any plans for a EPIC offline workflow with FCP 7/Studio 3?

Yes Lawrence,

What I ended up doing was making 422(proxy) files from the start at 1/8 resolution...edited on those, then sent an xml to rcx and exported the timeline as separate clips in 2k(full resolution) with a light grade. It's about the only thing you can do at this point if you are using Color. Hopefully Red will release some sort of offline workflow...but for now, I am just renting a Davinici rig for any grading. BTW, maybe coming to Chicago pretty soon for a shoot, may need to rent from you guys. Will definitely keep you guys in mind. Great site!
