Dear knowledgeable Redusers,
Really would love your help and be as detailed as you can.
Kind of in a bind and need anyone who can walk me through this.
I would like to make a look from Red Cine-X to export out to somehow get two cameras (Epic and Red MX) to look the same in color.
Anyone can help me or done this before?
THANKS! Changing my signature soon to apologize for my noobness.

Personally, I would just match them in post. There isn't a set look you can put on both to make them look the same in all situations (in my experience). You would need one look for the Red One and one for the Epic and even then it won't always work. I just shoot with both do a base grade in Redcine, make the edit, and match them in the final grade.

Thanks, Sean!
Yea, I agree with you, but a client is requesting this and they'd like it to match as much as possible in camera as possible to know what they're capturing in the field.
THANKS!!

Thanks Andy,
I know we can do it in post, but I still like to match them closer as much as possible, we can always return to raw data anytime we want.

Hi Thanh! I'm trying to ask all sources on how to best do this.

Hi,
I just did this for a shoot recently, well not quite, I don't have an Epic yet, altough it's matter of days now, (I hope, waiting for a FedEx #); anyhow, I did this for an R1. We created a profile with the DP for a feature I just worked on. It worked out great, the DP loved that possibility, we then rendered out all the rushes with RedCine-X and they automatically took the Profile created so that the rushes already had the look the DP wanted, worked great. My camera is out on a rental, so I can't verify what I'm saying, but if I remember corectly, it's quite straight forward, you just create a "Profile" folder, on an SD card for example, then you use Redcine-X on an sample image, create the look you want and use the option "Save Current Look to Camera" this creates a file which you place in your "Profile" folder. You then put your SD card in the camera, go under video and load "Look", the file you created shoudl appear there as an option.
Happy shooting, and profiling,
Damien

Thanks Damien.
But you can do the same with the Epic?

Thanks Damien.
But you can do the same with the Epic?
I'm sure you'll be able to, but don't know if that is enabled yet. Can any Epic owner chime in ?
Then there is the question of will the same Profile give the same results on an Epic and on a R1, probably not, but that's not really a problem. You shoot the same scene with the two cameras, you load the images up in RedCine, you tweak them to your liking AND to make them match, then you export the two profiles and load them up ot their respective cameras. Ohhh, I'm so looking forward to having an Epic in my hands, soon...
Cheers,
Damien

You can load up RMDs as look in Epic.
See the Import Preset section of the manual.

Using RCX (build 506) I opened a clip from an SSD (I specifically reset the camera to factory defaults each time) and manipulated the settings of the clip.
I did "Save Current Look to Camera...", which saved an .RLK file to wherever I liked. When I installed the SSD back in the Epic, the camera did not seem to recognize this file at all.
I right-clicked on the clip in the Bin and did "Save RMD". I found the .RMD file in the clip folder. When I installed the SSD back in Epic the camera did not find this file at all.
When I placed the .RMD file in a folder /Presets on the SSD (p 85 of manual v3.0 REV A - in bold) the camera did not recognize it.
When I did "Save RMD" as before (#2) and then dragged the .RMD file to the top level of the SSD, the camera DID RECOGNIZE AND IMPORT IT.
This is very confusing and unclear. (I won't even get into the "Read Only" SSD messages in RCX, with no instruction on how to unlock them.)
May I suggest: When "Save RMD" is executed, the .RMD file is saved at the top level of the SSD (where the camera expects to find it), or in a folder named "Presets" (as the manual suggests). If the "Presets" folder is to be used, the camera should create it by default when formatting a card. And the camera should recognize an RMD file in /Presets.
Also, the "Save RMD" command should be the same as the "Save Current Look to Camera..." command - and the system should maybe just do both (to avoid confusing users). If the RCX file is for the Red One, then the camera should recognize it, and same with the Epic. At the very least the confusing "Save Current Look" command should say "to Red One" or something. And the "Save current Look to Epic" should be along side it.
Alternatively, the camera could recognize an RMD file inside the clip folders. This seems like a less effective strategy, and more confusing.
Sincerely,
Nelson

I hear ya. More straightforward would be nice...
I think Red is moving on to RCX-Pro though. The last RCX update was months ago, but RCX-Pro gets updates every 2 or 3 weeks it seems. Maybe they've been working on simplifying the process with new camera builds and RCX builds.

I tried creating a look , messed around with the color balance (mid low and high) and curves . when i load it in the camera, I don't see any changes to the look.

I think Red is moving on to RCX-Pro though.
Which would be great if they released it (RCX-Pro). I've avoided beta anything for production shoots. May have to try and see if they've fixed the RCX problems there.
