Is "mid stream" during grunt work like encoding? Might be it needs better cooling. Try a fan maybe?

WELCOME to world of Electronics---I don't think you'll find the reason why...this happens to MANY of us from time to time...happened to me last night...just occurs. BUT, that said you should occasionally go into disk utilities and do some verify disks and repairs as maintenance....

Anyway....what i'm advocating is don't worry.....it just happens....probably to many on this forum.

This happens to me when I'm using my ExpressCard to eSATA adaptor on my MacBook Pro. You're not using one of those, are you? Thankfully it's only happened once since the upgrade to Lion, they seem to have improved support.

I've had that happen a couple times (the black curtain with a message saying to reboot). The first time it was caused by bad RAM. The second time it was a faulty logic board (which turned my MacBook Pro into a large, shiny coaster).
