Jarred,

I presume no photoshop gurus allowed and that actual sticker photos only will be considered for contest entrants?

If so, I will need to special order two 15 foot high stickers for my contest submission.

Sharky

PS- Anyone here good at long line repelling?

We need some rules/guidelines, what goes and what does not?

Steve Sherrick
02-16-2007, 07:02 PM
Okay, I know the Red team has done a great job of marketing so far, but that right there is the best marketing I have seen yet. And I mean that in a non-chauvinistic way of course.

In all seriousness Kelly, that is really hot. Kudos for being a good sport. You must really like working with these guys. I'm just glad they decided to have you wear the stickers and not Jarred, no offense, man.

Jeff Kilgroe
02-16-2007, 07:18 PM
Wow... I'm not around all day today and look what happens.

All I can say is, Kelly... I love your dress! Oh, and I did get the stickers you sent me, now I have to find a creative something to do with them. I haven't found a home for that 20" one just yet.

So, who manufactured the snowboard? Not that it really matters, I'm going to submit something anyway. It's probably a bit too long for me, I prefer my Unity Pride 155. But what's another 8cm...

As others have asked, what are the rules?

How many submissions are we allowed, or is it just one per person? Are there any limits, guidelines, etc... I'm assuming you don't want us to break any laws. Although, I'll help make the 15ft stickers if sharkguy really thinks he could pull off his concept. Heh.

I still didnt receive mine!

The only reason that someone hasn't received their "R" is because they still haven't turned in their signed agreement.

Kelly is the original RED "Redhead". All the rest of you are just imitations!

Oh lord. I thought my Grafitti past was behind me. This is too good to resist. You think you got out, but they pull you back in.

One question: How hard is it to remove those stickers from windows?

Just a small caveat: Before holding competitions like these, Its best if the RED company sets some rules and guidelines so that if someone goes and does something slightly daring shall we say, RED is not held accountable.

Jarred Land

They are actually very easy to remove from windows... me and Jim do it almost every-week.

A small bit of Trivia.. as crazy and non-cost effective as it is may be... every single Red sticker at this point is handmade by Jim and Myself... as much as they look good scattered on random objects they really should be collectors items...

Kelly
02-16-2007, 11:39 PM
Jarred is right... the stickers are pretty much collectors items! I am so excited to see what you all come up with! Good luck!

Sure, now you tell us they're collectors items... Now I don't want to screw 'em up. :) After I already put the 3" one on my ski/snowboard helmet.

I think I have an idea though what to do for this little contest. Looks like I still have a good bit of time to think it over.

Jarred, so that's how you do it! I was wondering how you always appear to be 7' whereas I'm sure you're just 3.5' in reality. It's that portable photoshop "scale vertically x2" filter that you have with you at all times :-)

Can you make a "scale horizontally x 0.5" filter for me?

I hear ya...it took some intense concentration on my part to focus in on the technical merits and production values! I had to revert back onto the abstract reasoning and creative visualization I used in my first career as an air traffic controller to hang with the tech side of the questions I had...

Aesthetics, talent, and the right tech sure make magic, dont' they...

Those who really know me know that I am a jokeaholic - always teasing and laughing! I just put on my "game face" for tech forums...

I don't think the RED sticker thong will win the contest... Although, depending on who you get to wear the thong, that could make all the difference.

I've got big plans for one of my stickers, but I don't know if I can pull it off before the contest ends. I gotta keep this one top secret for now though. :ninja:

Uh, oh.. We're starting a mine's better'n your's ski slope fight. Hehe. My fav's are Steamboat and Vail (just there a couple weeks ago for Winter X Games fun) here in CO at least for overall size, challenge, variety of terrain, etc... Breckenridge isn't too bad either, but the touristy town and parking/access arrangement just suck.. Not a bad place to go stay a few days though if you stay right on the slopes. Some other smaller ski areas are pretty cool too, depending on what you're looking for. Winter Park here is fun and a good one for the family. I went there religiously while learning to snowboard since they had the best terrain park for years, now everyone has a nice terrain park... Steamboat has the best remote access, helicopter drop options around. Although, I hear Washington and Oregon have a few great places for killing yourself doing that too. :) Of course, you could always be completely nuts and try to ski down Denali... I've heard of Baker, I've been to Seattle several times, but only in the spring/summer. My neighbors here in CO moved here from around Seattle last year, they've mentioned Mt. Baker.

I've checked out most of the major places in Utah too... Overall very similar to Colorado, although I think we just have more of it. I'd like to make it over to Europe and take a tour of the Alps someday. I've met a lot of people from over there that come here to ski. Seems split right down the middle as to whether they really like it here or like it at home better. But I guess there's a lot of factors at work there....

Hopefully we get some more snow soon here... It's been a bit warm the last couple weeks and conditions have been a little lacking in some spots. Most of the slopes close to town have suffered this year as a lot of the snow has actually been in town around Denver and to the east rather than up in the hills.

I learned to snowboard in the late '80's when I was part of the team that was first televising snowboarding on ESPN, Prime Sports Network, and others. Once I tried snowboarding I immediately quit skiing. Growing up a surfer and skateboarder, it just felt more natural to have one foot in front of another on a single board. When we covered the various world pro snowboarding events all through the '90's, I'd always get my own boarding in before and after the events. I've helped cover snowboarding worldwide over the years, downhill, boardercross, halfpipe, all of it.

My favorite mountains? For backcountry powder it's hard to beat Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. As the storms cross the desert, after passing the Cascades, they somehow deliver amazingly dry powder on Utah and Colorado. Whistler is awesome...love it. I lived on the west side of Mt. Hood (Oregon) for 2 years, and I know the Cascade resorts well. They're fun...but the snow is wetter than that of the Rockies. I like Mt. Bachelor (Ore.). When we worked events in New England and up into Maine, it always seemed icy cold and the mountains had a lot of boilerplate and corn snow. The most beautiful resort I ever shot a snowboarding TV program at? I'd say Saas Fe, Switzerland. A little village nestled high up in a bowl-shaped valley, with tons of wide-open bowls and downhill.

Jarred, the closest real good snowboarding to where you now live (Newport Beach) is up by Mammoth, at June Mountain. We televised several events from there...fun mountain.

It's way cool that RED has produced these limited production snowboards...and the graphics on them seriously rock! Someone will be a happy owner of those, but since only a few will be made, I'd seriously think about making them "wallhangers" if you win one. There are lots of good snowboards around to put on the mountain, but when it's a limited edition like those I think I'd hang it on a wall in my office as a trophy piece.

Yep, this is relevent... (Sorry Justin, I know it's difficult to use a snowboard in Texas). You could put wheels on it. :)

As for me (in response to Gibby's post above), I grew up in CO on the slopes here. I didn't give snowboarding a try until about '95... I still ski too and I often find I do whichever I feel like doing on a particular day. I'm just OK on a board, I can handle most blue/black rated terrain with it, but I tend to spend most of my board time playing in the terrain park or just cruising the slopes with a group of friends of various abilities. I'll drive to the slopes and often don't decide until I start taking the gear from the truck if I'm skiing or riding that day. My wife just skis, she only started about 10 years ago and hasn't gone too much (about twice a year) -- strictly a green run or two to 'warm up' her first time out for the season and then she sticks to the groomed blue stuff. I'm more of a terrain nut and that's a big reason I still prefer skis. I enjoy the challenge of making it down complex terrain, rocks, boulders, cliffs, trees, etc... Stuff that takes a bit of thought and analysis before just pointing the ski tips downhill. I've got enough mountaineering experience to recognize avalanche conditions and what to stay away from (most of the time). Even then, I've almost been caught in a snow slide on more than one occasion. I haven't done that sort of stupid stuff for a few years though... Since settling down and having kids, it's changed my perspective. I don't do too many stupid things anymore since I'd like to hang around and be here for my family long-term. ;)

As for the RED snowboard, I'd love to win it. I won't ride it - strictly wall-hanger here. It's a collector's item with a huge coolness factor and it's the wrong size, too.

I've got a few big ideas of what to do with my stickers.... One is a guranteed win (IMNSHO), I'm starting to doubt that I'll be able to pull it off by the deadline though. ...bummer.

I like Mt. Bachelor (Ore.).

That's where I used to snowboard when I was at high school in Bend (with Leslee Olson). After hearing all the hoopla about Whistler and finally giving it a try, I found myself longing for the empty runs of Bachelor. Whistler is just way too crowded these days. I'm still shocked nobody has mentioned Kicking Horse up in Golden, BC yet! That's some epic boarding up there. It only barely beats Baker, though. Baker just gets dumped on and you're pretty much guaranteed fresh powder whenever you go.

In the spirit of the cinematography thread, top three favorite mountains:
1. Kicking Horse (Golden, BC)
2. Mt. Baker (WA)
3. Mt. Bachelor (OR)

Wish the waves were more accessible out here!

I wish I could surf... I've only attempted it once. I had a rought first time - I think I was a bit to overconfident going into it. It ended in disaster -- As my friend (and attempted suring instructor for the day) said, "dude, you suck". I wanted to try it again last time I was in Hawaii (like almost 4 years ago), but it didn't work out between everything else we were doing out there.

Surfing takes a LONG time to learn, I'd almost say 2 years, just to start surfing. But it is, absolutely, one of the most humbling, rewarding, & empowering things I have had a chance to experience.

If you don't have a ton of time for playing in the waves, I'd suggest Body boarding. That way you get it all: Catching waves, having fun, get sun burned...and take a beating.

I think the day I tried surfing was one of the most frustrating days of my life. Like I said, I was over confident... I had at least tried just about everything else I could do in or on the water and I consider myself to be pretty athletic. But surfing kicked my ass. I'd love to do it again though.

Steve Gibby
02-20-2007, 10:48 PM
My father learned to surf in Hawaii in the early 1940's and passed it on to his kids. I've been surfing my whole life. I've surfed all over the world, and I've worked on surfing TV programs all over the world. Surfing is a lifestyle, rather than just a sport. When asked who the best surfer in the world was, a few years back, a well-know surfer replied: "The best surfer is the one who's having the most fun!". I own a collection of eight surfboards. Producing and shooting surfing programs is almost as fun as surfing - although when the waves are good I'd much rather be out there. All surfers owe a debt of gratitude to Hawaiians for sharing the culture and lifestyle with the world.

Surfing is much harder than it looks, so no worries Jeff, I've seen many a great athlete be humbled when they first try it...

This is a broad thread that has wandered away from the sticker contest and snowboards, but hey, snowboarding is closer related to surfing than it is to skiing. Maybe RED will also have a sticker contest for a limited edition RED surfboard...that would be waaaaaaaaaaaay coooooooooooool!

Damn, I leave for a week and miss the contest. I could do fun things with stickers, but must admit I haven't ordered any. I could do even more fun things with that snowboard, but hey I won't complain, I just had one of the best snowboarding weeks in long time. Three days of snowing followed by three days of sun, up in the swiss alps! I still found fresh powder after three days, I don't know what everybody else was doing, but I'm sure glad they left me all the freshness.

Jah-RED,

I don't know if you know these guys or have seen their "footy", but MATCHSTICK Films shot some incredible ski/snowboard footage up at Whiss(tler) of riders hitting a park kicker that is shot from a heli at approximate height of the riders and over-cranked.

It's about the sickest, most beautiful, unique footage I have seen in a ski or snowboard film(soo :bleh: much style). Standard films hired them to shoot some stuff for their film last year or the year B4...

WOW, how on earth are they going to be able to complete our cameras when they spend their time searching for hidden "photoshopped" stickers, and verifying who bought what?

I want my camera, and I donīt care if an image is edited in photoshop - I think itīs ok, but I believe one should be the owner of the copyright for whatever images one chooses to post!

 Good point.. I would like my camears as well. But if we are just photshoping that kind of takes the fun out of it don't you think. Wouldn't be alot more fun if we could se what people can do with actual stickers. Just saying I think it would make a more interesting contest. You also have to think what pize is at stake here. That think is going to be a very valued collectors iteam one day. So I just think it should go to some that took the effort to go out and get a real pic with an acutal sticker then someone at work on photoshop. Not saying that the photoshoped pics don't kick some serious ass.

Jeff Kilgroe
02-27-2007, 02:25 PM
I still vote for use of a real sticker. I won't hold the RED team to verification of legit stickers... Actually, that could violate some contest regulations in some places. Many state and local governments here in the USA require that most contests of this nature have a no-purchase-necessary clause attatched. But what I'm getting at is; I thought this was a sticker contest and not a Photoshop contest.

No, but any monkey with Photoshop or one of its many clones can paste a 36" RED logo on Air Force One. On the other hand, actually accomplishing that in real life may be worthy of a snowboard.

I'll wait for Jarred to lay down the law, but I'd prefer the requirement be something tangible or in the physical realm using an official red sticker or possibly a very close approximation.

If Photoshop and CG creations are permissible, that's fine. Actually that's great, I don't have to work nearly as hard... Probably better for all you guys if that's the case -- Because like I've said before, if I can pull off my idea, that snowboard is as good as mine. :matrix:

that brain scan looks pretty harmless :-)

I know I know - it came from a University site. I did have a really good animated GIF diagram which I found quite amusing, though I've mis-laid that for the moment. I'll try and dig that out tomorrow along with a few a jokes.

I suppose I'd better order some stickers and see if I can't put one on the speaker in the house of commons while they are having a nap or something?

How about a RED sticker on a Beef Eater ?? Any kudos in that???

Best regards, Phil

I think you have a few good ideas in that head of yours! You could give the other Redusers a run for their money... er... snowboard :-)

OK, I know it's been asked before, but...

Are there any official rules? Other than real stickers? I've got an idea, but don't want to spill the beans about it. However, I could see where it might not be entirely acceptable. Nothing illegal, but I won't go into any more detail than that.

Red is not responsible for what you do... and don't gross me out. There are some important rules for you!

probably not a good idea to gross out one of the judges.

Personally I am wating for the contest prize to be the official red calendar
featuring our dear kelly in the entire red couture collection. Now that is a prize
worth fighting for. besides not to many hills in Philly for snowboarding. skatboard yes....I wonder how that board would look with a good pair of wheels...

Harmless. I promise. I could not do anything like that to Kelly. She saved my ass and worked very hard so I could get my reservations in. So I can't thank her enough. I was just thinking of something that she would find humorse.

Oh, it's nothing gross. The guys will probably like it a lot more than the ladies, though. :)

Glad to hear it - I wasn't trying to impune your impeccable reputation.

It's just that I'm still reeling from watching 'The Audition' a 'Tartan Extreme' production I think. You may not have seen this, but the rather flimsy excuse for all the blood letting by our 'heroine' is that she was 'abused' as a child. If I had a tenner for everytime this worn out cliche had been used in film plot I'd be as wealthy as the venerable JJ.

And another thing that gets my goat is that the heroine (aka Psycho) decides to cut a mans legs off simply because he wants to have sex with her?? If I'd had some part of my body sawn off everytime I'd expressed an interest in sleeping with some hot chick, I'd have been immobilised before I was 18 years old. Surely it's not that much of a sin to say you fancy someone of the opposite sex is it?? They can always say 'no thanks you've got too many spots' or 'you share too many similarities with Homer Simpson for me to find you attractive' or even 'listen slap head - piss off !!'

Maybe I just hate lazy film plotting - and another thing . . . . . .:ranting2:

Gotta bump it with a picture...

This is a composite from five pictures taken with a sticker. So it's both real and fake.

Still preparing mine...

Plan A fell through... I'm now on Plan-B and working out Plan-C in case B doesn't work out so well. I need to order some more stickers tomorrow too. Heh, I hope I don't spend too much on this.

Yeah, "average dude on a bike" has always been my favorite Harley ad campaign. - hehe :red_bandana:

The bike sells itself though. Elcurado, nice bike, I'm jealous.... I've been thinking about getting one myself, but this camera habit is really hard on the wallet.

I'll have a real entry in by the deadline (or at least I better to save face). So far, things aren't looking up though. I won't divulge any details until after the deadline, but I've got two failed attempts already... The first was a guaranteed win (IMNSHO), but oh well. :bleh: I'm concocting my third plan now and hopefully can put it into action next week.

...Maybe I'm trying too hard?

Jeff,

I can relate. My first idea involved 1000 midgets, a wild bobcat and a steamroller. Ain't gonna happen. Just photoshop the impossible and post it here for ***** & giggles. Perhaps we could use this thread for fun and the other for serious submissions?

Poi Boy,

I have a feeling everybody wants to save their magic for the very end. Why not use your Red sticker on your ski trip? Plant that sucker on a snowboard and do something insane. Damn, there goes my idea.
