...to do what you really want to do.
I spent my morning in a CAT scan machine, and although it was an interesting experience, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I actually like. Diagnosis, Liver Disease, although to soon to tell what causing it OR what can be done about it, Many more blood tests and urinalysis to come ... this week will prove to be interesting. When I got home this afternoon I was pretty bummed so I just lay out in the spring sun for a while. All the kids where at school and the wife was at work, so I enjoyed just slowing down and listening to the world around me for once. Several BIG things need to happen in the coming new year. I decided I need to put more effort into showing my family how much I love them. I decided I need to get out of the job I am in (for my health) and find something else asap. I decided that no matter what, I have to follow my dreams.
There is a saying that goes "Its not tragic to die doing what you love, the tragedy is going through life never having tried it." It looks as though the Scarlet that I have been waiting for for some time and my little independent Film will be put on hold for some time until all this medical crap is taken care of anyway, but I also made the decision today that no matter what, I want to shoot RED and I want to own a Epic or a Scarlet and call me stupid, but I will do anything in my power to make that happen. Anything.
Why am I sharing this with you all? cause if your sitting on the fence I am encouraging you to jump. Jim is right EVERYTHING in life changes...EVERYTHING. Don't hesitate, back yourself and do it! Life is short, do what you love!

John, I really appreciate your willingness to share wisdom and experience from such a difficult situation. I hope the best for you and your family. Love is one of the only things we really have that's truly valuable. I'm sure you'll find encouragement and strength there. Feel free to contact me if you ever need anything. Thanks for the advice.

Good words John,
I spent so much time in the Hospitals thru out my life, I can't even recall if I actually spent more time out or in??
Cat Scan, got me about 7 times... Yeah, not wishing that to any one i like either...
So sorry to hear about your health issues, and I wish you the very best as it can be head, considering.
I will not list, again, what is really wrong with me, and the fact that I just recovered form a very recent Mild Stroke caused mainly by Stress.
It is extremely important and sacred to ones mind, that a DREAM, never be left behind without having tried to achieved, again and again, and again, till life we have no more...
My health is less, well, much less, then ideally okay, yet I PERSEVERE, some times a bit too much, but I will never let anything stop me from trying... SO NEVER STOP EITHER JOHN!!
My best wishes for your health and DREAMS... ;)

John, first and foremost, our thoughts are with you man. Sorry to hear about this news. I've always tried to show my family how much I care about them but sometimes life distracts you and it's only until you are able to take a step back that you realize how important they are and there's really nothing more important in the world then them. I hug my wife and daughter every chance I get because I know there are no guarantees in life. We could be here for fifty more years or 5 more minutes. I don't want any regrets, and I want to be a good dad and a good husband.
Hopefully you are able to have many more years on this planet and spend as much time with your family and friends as you can. Perhaps what you capture with the RED someday will have special meaning based on what you are about to go through.
Take care man, hope you get through this okay.

John,
I hear what you mean. I just spent two days last week as Reducation to realize that the time is now for me to make that jump as well. I also have the constrains of a family, as more difficult that may make it, all the more joyous when you do because you have a family to share it with.
God Speed,
Adam

I'm sorry to hear that, John!
I hope this will be something that can be overcome!
Ketch is also very inspiring as he lived through hell and came out of it maybe "weak" in body but strong in spirit!
If this can be dealt with in a somewhat positive way, I hope it all turns out for the best, and only changes your life
in a good way.
I wish you all the best for your future and good health! get well !
cheers from germany.

Hey man, sorry to hear the bad news - something healthy that might help (ask the doctors first) is to drink a lot of fresh juice from vegetables and some fruits. We got a Breville juicer because my wife watched this documentary called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" - I was really annoyed at first, especially buying something that wasn't a Red Accessory, also to be confronted by health and mortality is not something I wanted to do - but after changing my diet, and drinking more juice I can actually notice a big difference in how I feel.
Hope that helps.
Sometimes the juice tastes good, othertimes not so much - but it is healthy.

As has been said, sorry to hear. I have had my share of medical misfortune, and can understand at leas to some degree what you are going thru. AND what you are trying to say.
You keep positive, keep a goal in view and get treated, get well.

The cool thing about the liver is it's power to regenerate. If you do lose faith in the mainstream at any point in time, just know that there is always an alternative way to correct and reverse dis-ease in the human body. Since we are all about films, I'd highly recommend watching "Fat, Sick and nearly dead" as well as "Run from the Cure" which is available free on the internet. Good luck my friend. Keep your mind open to all methodologies of care for your body.
Much love, Kalani

John ... I have never met you in person .... but 2 days ago we were laughing and joking about the RWC and the NRL final on this very forum .... if I look back at your throwaway posts in that thread they ooze positivity and sheer joy -
" The Rugby World Cup, The League Grand Final and REDUSER on the ipad ...... what a Sunday! "
As you can see by this thread your not alone , I'm a Kiwi in the South Island .... if the South Island figured in any way in your short film idea let me know, If I can help in any way , no matter how small .. you got it.
Take care.

family, friends and everything around us, They will be the ones to share accomplishment and failure with, but before anything health comes first.. thanks for sharing and get well.

John,
Challenges are a part of life for basically all of us. Changes are inevitable. How we deal with them is a matter of choice. I definitely think you've made a good choice in how you're approaching this new challenge in your life.
Stay positive and you'll get beyond this. If you can dream it - you can achieve it.
I have a wooden sign on my office wall with these words on it: "Cherish Yesterday, Dream Tomorrow, Live Today". If you adopt that as your mantra you'll sail beyond this challenge quickly.
I'm sure lots of the Red family here will keep you in our positive thoughts and/or prayers. You'll get beyond this - and it will be great chance to learn, re-evaluate priorities, and emerge much stronger.
Try to look on the bright side of this situation - because that positive energy will see you through it.

John, sorry to hear your news. I've been in enough CAT and MRI machines - not fun at all. It's worth checking out if you're celiac or gluten intolerant as wheat gluten consumption can cause liver disease. I applaud your attitude - it's the right way to proceed!

Another Kiwi here wishing you well. I am Aukland based, and mosty work in post. My normal standing offer would b to buy a guy a beer, but considering the illness I'd probbly have to modify that.
Seriously though, if there is anything you need help with don't hesitate to get in touch, from your posts you seem like a great guy and Im sure here are more than a few kiwis willing to offer what assistance they can in getting your dreams rolling, illness or not.

I woke late this morning, I guess I needed the rest and as I took a personal day work was not beckoning. As I sat down down in front of my PC and opened my mail, i was bombarded with REDUSER notifications regarding my post. As I started from the top and started to my way down the list I burst into tears... My wife thinks I am going mad. The truth of it is I could never have had imagined the support and honest feedback I have received from the members here at REDUSER. There are no words, all I can do is express my deepest gratitude, not only from myself but my family also.
John, I really appreciate your willingness to share wisdom and experience from such a difficult situation..
Your welcome Paul. Thank you for your kind words..
Good words John,
I spent so much time in the Hospitals thru out my life, I can't even recall if I actually spent more time out or in??
Cat Scan, got me about 7 times... Yeah, not wishing that to any one i like either...
KETCH, it is interesting what your (my) impression can be of people. I have always enjoyed your posting and from what I know about you, you are a very successful, self made man. From all outward appearances I would have never guess what you have been through and what you are still coping with...your a true inspiration to me. Thank you.
I hug my wife and daughter every chance I get because I know there are no guarantees in life. We could be here for fifty more years or 5 more minutes. I don't want any regrets, and I want to be a good dad and a good husband.
Sounds like you have what is important already at the top of your list...Thanks Steve.
I hear what you mean. I just spent two days last week as Reducation to realize that the time is now for me to make that jump as well...
Adam...you have no idea how much I have been trying to get to REDUCATION. I remember I was heading to Vegas a year or so ago to see Jim unveil the Epic. Man I moved mountains to get the money sorted, time off work and made my reservation with RED etc. On the morning I was set to fly out I was involved in a car accident resulting in the cancellation of my trip....I was fine physically, but destroyed emotionally, I almost tried to hitchhike my ass over there. I have been trying to get to REDUCATION ever since...it will happen one day. You have been, you now have all the "tools" GO FOR IT!
Looking forward to hear from you shooting with Epic and/or Scarlet.
...It will be the "click" heard around the world! ...lol. Thanks Lauri.
Ketch is also very inspiring as he lived through hell and came out of it maybe "weak" in body but strong in spirit!
Amen to that, thanks Patrick.
That's why everyone needs to read my signature... Think about it and do something with it.
Certainly my intention...thanks Erwin.
drink a lot of fresh juice from vegetables and some fruits.
Sound advice Dan...I have the fridge full of V8 as we speak ;)
You keep positive, keep a goal in view and get treated, get well.
Thanks Scott :)
Keep your mind open to all methodologies of care for your body...
Absolutely Kalani, my niece is a naturopath...she is already on my case. Cheers mate
.... if the South Island figured in any way in your short film idea let me know, If I can help in any way , no matter how small .. you got it.
Brent, Cheers for the kind words mate, but you should really be more careful about what you post...there are several locals I wanted to look at in the south for the Toll House....what are you doing tomorrow ;) j/k But on a serious note, if you in the industry, I would love a day in the life of ------------- ;) I appreciate it!
John, to keep dreams in perspective it is always good to stop every once in a while and appreciate
family, friends and everything around us, They will be the ones to share accomplishment and failure with, but before anything health comes first.. thanks for sharing and get well.
Thanks Luis, wise words :)

Steve, I should have quoted your full post, so much said in just a few words. I have taken many Mantras from this thread, I have curtainly added this one in Note also. I respect your work and attitude a great deal, thanks for your words :)
It's worth checking out if you're celiac or gluten intolerant as wheat gluten consumption can cause liver disease.
Cheers Graeme! I will have a good look into this and see what transpires :)

Antonio, never a truer word spoken mate. The Team here at read are like no other, I give thanks everyday for finding this forum and for some of the great friends I have met and those I will go on to meet in this community.
Ah, man... Say it isn't so. So sorry. Wishing you all the best.
Jeff, Thank you, you are another member I have come to admire a great deal. :)
A speedy recovery to you, John. Slowing down is a good idea. Enjoy your life the way you want it. Kids, a family, sounds like a real good point to start from :)
Cheers Felix, I appreciate it!

That cold beer sounds awesome...however my Doc not to mention my liver would be pretty pissed if I took you up on the offer :) ....I am however looking for some REAL exposure to the industry Craig, if ever you find yourself working of a project and wouldn't mind someone looking over your shoulder and drinking your coffee ....you know where to find me ...I can do AKL in 3.5 hours ;)
I was given a termination date not too far into the future, less than a year actually..
Tom, wow I found this an emotional read...my heart and wishes are with you sir. I will not give in to this thing no matter what the course and I am not about to roll over and die just because some tells me too F@#K that. I will not be going down without a fight Tom no fear on that. I Prey your own prognosis is good mate, do keep me posted and thank you for your kind words :)
To all ...Thank you.
