Does anyone know what the max resolution would be for this card... considering that the mac 8-core xeon will be the only machine that can run the card?

If the cards are driven in parallel (crossfire/SLI mode) they should be able to drive 4 * dual-link DVI with proper sync. Dual cards should be able to sustain nearly 20M pixels/sec... It will for sure be capable of 2 * 3840x2400, which would equate to roughly 5424x3390 if the 16:10 aspect ratio is maintained. Single cards will be limited to somewhere around 3840x2400, but should be able to handle the full 4K res of RED (4096x2305). Provided you can find a display that will digest it. ...OTOH, current 2 * Dual Link DVI cards can handle 4K on a single display, if that display were available. The Hitachi 3840x2400 panels are still out there in 22" size, but are a bit hard to find and don't perform that well -- older, discontinued tech.

Thanks for the info... I wonder if the new monitors from Dell and Apple will go up to true 4k. I heard that both companies will soon announce their competing offerings.
