There's at least 11 Reds in town by my knowledge, and perhaps more. Anyone else want to reveal themselves? We should get together and support each other.

Name a time and place and I'd be there.

We'll probably wait until a few more Red's show up. We could make it a much bigger group by including those who don't own a Red but intend to use them a bunch (DPs, ACs and DITs)

I am the only one who actually has one, unless Ray took delivery. Picture This Productions has 1 coming (700s), Koerner has 3, Guy has 1, Greg Leno has 1, Ken Kupelian has 1, Peter Richardson has 1, then the three you mentioned, and me, so that's 12, there could be others.
Btw Donatello, thanks again for the rocking night you came out! Are you going to be at NAB this year?

Is there a user group for this yet? I can't seem to find it. Reason being on Tuesday, I'm doing a 3 camera shoot (non-red). And am looking to see if anyone knows where I can get rent/borrow a small dolly or crane for some indoor shots at night. Anyone have some ideas?

Hey Josh,.. I try to help when I can... its a manual tilt head... but when balanced
that rig can be handled with one finger... I might be able to help operate it/set it up depending on the night...
it does not have a dolly, but has dolly wheels for track... :) its nice and heavy with weights and all, so it tracks pretty smoothly... but its usually a two person operation...
however, I Do NOT have track... but its pretty cheap to rent.. unless its a long run... then PVC may be an option...
however, if you have enough room... I find the 8 and 12 foot replaces a dolly because you can track people walking quite a decent distance with it and no bumps... how far is the move? also has multiple wheels for different terrains as well as spikes for outside.
email me for my phone number or tfw (at) indentstudios (dot) com lets chat.

I fall into this category as well. We're currently shooting some short pieces with a 5D II, but will hopefully have a Scarlet in our hands by this time next year. I'm still working on crossing over from the still photography world, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the Red workflow in the meantime.

Hi all,
I've talked to many of the Oregonians on this board but have never officially listed myself in this thread. So here it is:
My name is Sean. I'm a Portland based DIT, DMT, and post production supervisor. I recently upgraded my kit (http://www.seanrawls.com/dit/) for the feature "Golf in the Kingdom" which shot in Bandon, Oregon. I'm working towards my union feature hours but would like to see the DIT position solidify before I invest in the initiation fee. I'm listed in the OMPA directory (http://www.sourceoregon.com/directory/detail/crew/video/video_engineers/sean_rawls/), but unfortunately my petition to create a DIT category fell on deaf ears and we are still listed as video engineers. Maybe next year. . .
Anyways, if you are shooting Red in Oregon look me up. I will keep your data safe and your post pipeline flowing smoothly. I'm particularly looking forward to the SB 621 tax break for next year when Leverage (and Crowley) leave town and the money gets spread around a little.
Thanks again, and happy shooting,
Marcus V Warner

I'm currently floating between Portland and San Diego but would really like to make Portland home - if there is enough work. Spent last summer shooting a documentary for FuelTV and have been working for various Portland production houses for quite a few years..... would love to move permanently.
Sean (Rawls), we shot that Formula Drift event for Speed channel in WA last year, my first time with the Red.... thanks for solidifying my decision to buy a Red One - I know I chewed your ear off with all the questions from Portland to Seattle and back! :)
So for anybody interested, Red #6783 w/Red 18-50mm and soon more lenses is available to shoot in Portland. (also, getting ready for the Epic upgrade path).
Cheers,
Milan

Waiting on me for what? There is no Red community in Portland. There are Red owners who know each other and are friends, then there are the rental houses who interact with us. There isn't enough people to get together for milk and cookies. i meet more Red owners from Portland at Las Vegas NAB then I do here
Shawn Nelson
10-12-2009, 10:40 AM
and not to name names, but there are several of the non-rental house Red owners who seem to have zero interest in interacting with the other Red owners. The Red "community" in Portland is more of a bunker mentality. But then there are others who love to meet up, we find each other, it's just not enough to organize anything. Maybe when Scarlet is announced and everyone and their brother, second cousin and dog own one then the 500+ Scarlet owners can get together and talk about workflow and making Sundance movies

I was just noticing how many people here seem to know you (or others named sean spelled shawn. )

Sounds good man! Getting some Redrocket Suites up would definitely help that. Plus when there is Scarlet, Epic and Red out there, a lot more people. Plus with your facility, you could hold training events. So lead on man.

While I am not in OR, I do have a SCRATCH system in the Seattle area. My REDRocket is on the way, so when SCRATCH 5.0 launches, I will have it up and running. I pretty much use it for personal projects, but I would like to get more use out of it.

Not sure how he will structure this one, but I know the one I did before culminated in a short "performance", so it might work well to only greenscreen and film the last few hours (as opposed to the whole time)

Not to partycrash but I am an aspiring film professional in Port Townsend, WA and go to Portland frequently for business. My production company has been saving for a Scarlet for the year that we have been in business and are now just waiting on it's release. I have a true desire to become a part of the RED world but my remote location is a hindrance.
If your group would allow me to sit in on one of these oh-so-intriguing geek outs, I would be truly grateful. I am attempting to build RED support around my small community of filmmakers and design a home system that will allow me to work in RED. What I am missing is the actual RED experience. Listening to your group may be the best way for me to learn and move forward at this stage. I am aware that you also may be interested in keeping this small and exclusive and I do understand if that is the case.
Never hurts to ask, right?

Well, to be honest there seem to be two groups in Portland- those of us who are active in the red community and interested in connecting with other filmmakers as well as Red owners, and then there are those who don't. From what I understand of the people who have responded to this thread, those that are interested are up for networking / meeting others. If you want to come down from Port Townsend then great. :)
However, there is nothing official or regular going on here. (That I am aware of anyway.) Most of the other red people I've met have been through working on other projects ...

Hi Tim-
Thanks for the offer. Might just have to drop in sometime. I've heard about your place and saw the early stage photos on here. Been following Red for some time now...but I too have ordered a Scarlet...so I definitely would love to get any help and get up to speed with the camera.
Cheers!

I have a Scarlet coming my way, so I will soon be a new RED owner in Portland. It will be great to have a local meetup and talk shop over some microbrews ;-)
It seems really hard to get peeps together in Portland...not sure why that is...but I'd be down to meetup..! I have a Scarlet on Order as well..!

I am new to reduser. Just put a deposit on a scarlet can't wait. I live in Ashland, but own a condo in the pearl. Hope to get up your way in the next 2 weeks. I would like to see how others trick out their red's and I'm interested in glass.
