I'm the original poster. I'm doing a 3 camera DVX shoot right now til i can rent a Red from one of youse fancypants rich boys. jk. I'd like to check out those cooke lenses if possible. do they work with the DVX? UCF has the adapter I can borrow (i'm in the grad film program)... i heard any adapters/lens hookups lose a couple stops of light... sigh... doing lots of low light shoots lately and it makes me nervous... checking on what adapter they have now... its the good one of the original two... i have a good carmount if anyone needs to borrow it.

Cool, Mike! Keep us Florida folk posted on how it goes and good luck! Man, I wish I could go... I'll be stuck in the editing bay working on crappy-looking DVX footage.

I've compiled a list of links to those covering NAB and will post an exhaustive list here soon, just for those of us that couldn't go.

Myself and our chief tech representative will be at NAB 2007 from the 15th - 19th. The list of NAB RSS feeds / sites is pretty extensive already. However we'll have pertinent product info & photos posted to our blog (http://rentcam.blogspot.com/) as the info becomes available. We are bit more discerning as to what we post to the blog, so you have some pretty rich content / info / photos / details available. Throughout the show, I will try and stay active here as well.

Placed my order first thing Monday at 9:03 am. Email me at km9000 [at] gmail.com if anyone wants to rent at a great price in the Orlando area. I'll be sending it out with a tech.

Ummm, come November...I just heard.

And I was timestamped #429 NAB2007, at 9:03am. Sigh...

Pat:

I'm number 206 but probably won't have PL lenses so we probably want to talk out about joining forces for awhile until they get to #568. My guess is I will try the Birger mount for Canon EOS for the underwater stuff - but how wide do you go with your ultra Primes?

Also I ran into Champe Barton in the RED booth at NAB and it turns out he is number 216 so right behind me. He lives in Hollywood (Florida).

Housing will commence quickly once cameras start to ship as I have a gentleman with a very early number that is interested and will be letting me get my hands on it for a little while.

PS for others I am in Weston which is a Ft. Lauderdale suburb about 20 miles from Miami airport and 15 from Ft. Lauderdale airport.

If you ordered at NAB you are behind the 1500 or so reservation holders. I think the posted schedule was for those first 1500. I think they went to a different numbering system for new orders so they wouldn't be tipping their hand on exactly how many are sold.

Keith Alan Morris

yep, thats why i say "timestamped #429 NAB2007"--they messed up my order at first on that fateful day, and so we went back and forth on the phone straightening everything out, where they told me directly that i was the 429th order that day. (they're sending out cameras by when people were timestamped, bc the ordering system was messed up.) so i guess i'm 1929 if there were 1500 reservations... i might take off my "#429 NAB 2007" on this site so people wont get the wrong idea, plus the November thing, since nobody knows for sure now with the delay...

edit: as per jims comments today, we should know a schedule within 5 weeks!

Hi: Mike in Weston (Ft. Lauderdale) I am res# 206 so should be in the second month or so after shipments start. Jim is supposed to update us on Friday as to the new ship schedule. Based on an email I received I think I am looking at about August for #206. BTW back in the 90s I spent a week in Tobago shooting for the T&T tourist board.

I will be renting or owner/operating. Also will have underwater housing since that is my main business. I have a friend who is number 216 or so, so probably have access to a second camera as well.

What style of shoot is it. I am trying to figure out what accessories, lenses, etc. that I will be purchasing/should be purchasing.

Hi, Craig. I just ordered my RED yesterday (8/25/07). Last week I took a look at the RED user map and saw your name listed. I actually called your offices and spoke to Ryan, as I was still on the fence about buying the cam at that time.

Anyway, good to know there will be another RED owner in the Pensacola area (I'm in Milton). I probably won't get my cam until Mayish, but, as I told Ryan, I'd love to come see you guys shoot something with your RED after you get your cam.

Sadly I'm not planning on being an owner because of $$$$ but I've followed the RED since day one and if anybody needs another body for shoots I'd be willing to help out. My work is mainly in TV, but I love getting into all types of production. Also since we're out here on the water I also have fellow coworkers who are divers, and I'm also an avid Jet Skier if it every becomes useful. All of them know about the Red and would love to work with one if help is needed.

Congrats to all of you who are getting one or two, or three... hehe.

Early Red owners in Florida: Any of you guys interested in hosting a little get together when you take delivery of your camera? I think you'll have quite a few people interested in helping you test the cameras. Me for one, and I'll bring the beer. Might be a good time to start a Florida Red User Group, too. FRUG!

I think these are the first 5 owners in Florida:

193 Peter Sassi, Deerfield Beach
206 Mike Hastings (AquaVideo), Weston
210 Dave Cox, Stuart
216 Champe Barton, Hollywood
271 CraigFPG, Pensacola

Any takers?

If we do something in Orlando, I can probably get 1 of the 2 TV stations I work with to let us use their studio. But the early owners are in South FL or Pensacola, and may want to stay closer to home. (But I guess you're willing to travel).

If everyone wants to email me their name and phone number from the people that are near Orlando and want to network and meet sometime. Also their Red# and if they would be willing to bring to show. I will then email or call everyone when we are ready to set a date and time. That way we are sure everyone that wants to come knows when.

We also could meet sometime before anyone gets a their Red just to network.

Okay, here's a suggestion. I belong to the Orlando Film Industry Professionals Meetup Group. It's just a bunch of people from all different disciplines in the film industry, and we have a casual get together once a month. The next meeting is Sat. Oct. 13 at 8pm at McRaney's Tavern in Winter Park. Why not just meet up there? If you're doing film or TV, it's always nice to meet other people in the industry.

Dear Floridians,

As of this moment, I find myself in Miami, taking a week off, visiting my old man, and bored to hell. I'm a humble Brazilian freelance director, sometimes doubling as cinematographer, beggining my carreer, doing some lousy gigs, and refreshing myself on the occasional not-so-lousy gig.

I would love to buy another reduser a beer or two around here, to know a procution house nearby or even to help out on a set. Anybody feels like it, please PM me, I'm here until november 5th, so let's say sunday.

By the way, anybody got any god tips on the indie rock scene in Miami (or anything alternative to do by nights)? Every place I go out for a drunk, I only see people with shirts tucked in their pants and cashmere sweaters over their shoulders... Weird!

Cheers to you all,

Julio Taubkin

I am certainly interested in getting together with the rest of you. I guess I also have pretty good contacts with the local TV stations. We have a monthly meeting of the SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers), which meets in the next room from where I sit every day that I'm in the office.
I hadn't read through this thread for a while as the delivery schedule has been somewhat unpredictable. I will be interested in renting mine out when they come. (Have 2 on order.)

Hi, all... new Florida member here.

This may be old news, but I couldn't find any mention of it here: Curtis Graham is apparently giving a demo of the Red on March 20th as part of the St. Pete Sunscreen Film Festival: http://sunscreen2008.bside.com/2008/?_view=_filmdetails&filmId=49511901. I can't get the website to give me any info on tickets to this demo, but day passes are available here: http://www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com/tickets/.

Showing RED footage next weekend in Oviedo at our wrap party for our feature Gutter King (shot on AquaVideoRed206's camera) AND it will also be our kickoff party for our next one! Redheads, send me a PM for info. We'll show a few cut scenes, and 60 seconds of a wide range of clips, etc. BYOB, but keg and cigars to Red owners will be provided.
