Hi Folks,
I know I'm getting ahead of myself - but I was wondering if there was any way of getting Time Code into the RED One?
I guess this has been answered somewhere before but I can't find that thread.
Thanks for your help.
All the best, Phil

Back in April 2006, Jim stated that the I/O connectors included timecode.

What’s included for inputs and outputs for the camera?
Jannard: There’s going to be dual link HD-SDI, XLR audio, USB, FireWire, a couple of SD cards slots to support future features, HDMI, D.C power in and out, timecode and many others. In some of these cases, we’ve made the conscious decision to go with small format connectors, as opposed to standard size, because we’re trying to keep this camera as small as possible.

I'm not sure if this (unofficial, reduser-created) block diagram is current- it does not mention timecode.

Many thanks JB.
I had heard of the Steve Gibby interview but I hadn't read it until now - even though it's almost a year old, there's still a lot of useful info in there for a newbie like me. Excellent!
I do hope some way of getting timecode into the RED ONE is available; as I often use two and sometimes three camera set ups. I could use the old method of slating the scene and then flashing from a still camera but I'd like something more professional going forward.
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Hello and may I introduce myself to you ? My name is Stewart from HKG - CHINA.
Speaking of 2-3 RED Cameras set up, and I will be interesting to find out more about 4K to anything OB Concert production for the Large Screen display.
Will S&W or GV - Thomson be building 4K or 2K Live Switcher ? 2 M/E with Keys ?
I know Codex in Soho has uncompressed solution for 2 x 2K or 1 x 4K stream as well.
Best regards,

I am interested to know if they could be synced to shot for 3-d , most recent high end HDV cameras could sync with firewire also.
For 3-D , openning shutter angle at the same instant is crucial for the shot to work.
Thanks for any UPdates.

stewart brings up an interesting point. Obiviously this camera is not meant
for live productions but what are the possibilities of red shooting a live concert and have it fed to a 4k projector for the crowd? or maybe live to a sattelite feed via sdi hidef.

I too have wondered about the possibility or doing 4k closed curcuit applications for large venues. It sure would be stunning.
At this point I do not believe therre is a real time live output from the camera in excess of the HD-SDI Dual-link output which is I think is limited to 1080p30. It is a 4:4:4 color signal if you have an output pipeline to get that to screen.
Eventually the hardware (and 2nd or 3rd generation coding) will exist to make RedCine able to de-Bayer in real time but in a live environment where even a few frames of delay would screw the lip sync I wouldn't hold your breath.
Perhaps the optical RAW port piped to some extreme processing architecture will emerge for this application - just keep chanting Moore's Law and praying to Lake Forest.

External Timecode and Genlock (tri-level sync) inputs are both standard.

Stuart,
Will the HDSDI Output be timeable?

I'm pretty new to this, and I haven't seen an update. Is there a delay of the live camera output? Can you delay audio so everything isn't out of sync?

Stuart, what ports support timecode, jamsync, etc.? I'll add those notes to my diagram.
