can anyone answer my question please:
are scarlet and epic fully controllable via the redmote, or do i need the sidehandle?

REDmote would be fine. Also, touchscreen.

Well, to control the camera at all, you'd need a power source. A REDVOLT goes inside the side handle or the coming power modules. Or plug a AC power adaptor to the camera body. You can't rack focus with the REDMOTE as I understand it - but in a NAB-interview, TED hinted that that could possibly be a "someday thing". You can also do almost everything with the touch LCD - I figure the rest is done by physically touching and operating the lens. So you'd almost do fine with the LCD and a power source (and media of course!). :)

Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong! ;)

Can't argue with you about the power source - hey maybe THAT's the big 11/3 announcement!! Otherwise, I think many Epic folks are still configuring RED Bricks to work. Hopefully, Scarlet won't ship without adequate power accessories available.

They have a dual battery Redvolt module coming soon. Going to be interesting to see what gets included in the package.

Yeah, how they handle powering new Scarlets will be interesting too see, I can't see them telling new scarlet users they don't have batteries nor battery holders (or chargers).

Simply said, the Scarlet needs to be fully usable otherwise what's the rush?

Scarlet works off ESP... And for those who are telekinetically challenged, you can control everything from the lens ring -- kinda like an iPod.
