For what? A camera? An Aardvark? A bucket of steam?

I would estimate a hundred bucks for a scarlet package to the EU

A bucket of steam?
But couldn't you sell the steam and then arrange for the buyer to draw tap water and steam that himself, thereby circumventing the associated shipping costs?
Seems silly to ship steam IMHO.

While we're on the subject, any Australian Red owners give me a heads up on shipping/tax? I'm sure there's GST we'll need to pay, any other import taxes?

Shipping steam is highly regulated, which is why we don't see it as much these days. Can't do it on a plane. Must be delivered by boat using dry ice. It's very complicated and costly.

I hear you. I understand it was always kind of hard to see, even back in the day. Being steam and all....

It's what caused Titanic to sink. Dry steam is very hard to see.

Hi Norbert !
I think, they will ship everything for what You have to pay from RED EUROPE in GB. You also do not pay custom taxes, but You pay GBP.

You realize you're not in the Ardvark or bucket of steam forum, right? He's probably talking about the Scarlet.

If I'm buying from RED, I'm buying in US $.
They are welcome to ship from GB, but my price is the $-price that RED announces in the US. If necessary I'll ship to intermediate US address first.
But please, no fake border price inflation, thank you very much.

Hurmm so if we have to pay import duties and VAT in the U.K:
VAT = 20%
Import Duty of Camcorder 4.9-14%
Scarlet price:
$10k = around £7,800-£8,500
or am i missing something?

Dependant upon the exchange rate, the level of duty applied and whatever RED's Shipping/insurance costs will be but, yes, in that ballpark perhaps. If, and it's a very big if until Thursday/Friday :-), the pre tax price is around $10k.......

I've read that thread long ago. That's why I'm saying I'm buying from RED USA.
Just to be clear; RED Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary of RED Digital Cinema. We are not an agent, and we don't mark up prices - UK list prices are in Sterling, are based upon the US list price plus all freight, insurance and import duties to the UK.
But my destination is not UK or the EU. And regardless, I don't want/need any middleman.
I do appreciate the fact that they explicitly state that they don't mark up prices. That's good. But nothing ever got any cheaper by taking an extra step on the way.

Fair enough Andree, I hadn't spotted that you were in Switzerland, apologies. So I guess RED.com won't redirect your online order to RED Europe.
I suppose it's then a matter of what works out cheaper, charges into the EU and then on to Switzerland (I thought I'd read somewhere that duty from within the EU to Switzerland can be very low? Due to EFTA, unofficial ERM membership and €/SF peg, but you'd still have two currency conversions involved I suppose) or charges direct from the US to Switzerland. You'll be on top of that, I'm sure :-).

Thanks G Lap I put the 10k price tag as my worse case senario. If it is that could be up to $13,500 (not exactly around $6,000 lol) finers crossed between 6-8k USD

Hi Josef, (And any other Aussies interested)
Yes we have to pay GST 10% on anything imported that is valued at over $1000.
Also shipping costs of course, and also Import Duty.
For items deemed available in Australia Import Duty can be as high a 15% for items/industries that are protected. But most items generally attract about a 5% duty fee.
I am expecting 5%
* Note: GST is calculated including transport and insurance/shipping costs + Duty.
So... say we ended up with a 10K Scarlet...
with 5% duty + $150 shipping x 10% GST - it would = $11,715.
At the moment though the exchange rates wold pretty much balance the duty costs out -
So take $500 off for our AUSD...
And a 10K USD Scarlet would cost us $11,215. Give or take.
Hope that's of help.
Best
Lliam
