I have some questions about lower budget 1080 monitoring on PC system using CS3 and Cineform.

We are going to finishing a project in house with a colorist, but we need to setup a 1080 monitor. The Dell workstation has a good Quadro card but no hd outs.

What is the quality of component HD? With this ( http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/pny-nvidia-quadro-fx/4505-8902_7-31345453.html ) video card? With this monitor ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101109 )?

The final outputs will be a DVD and 1080 master.

We are looking to spend $2,000-2,500 for the monitor and additional card. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Edgar

I am looking at this setup:

Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

40" Samsung Black 1080p LCD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102132

Would I be better off using HDMI or Component HD? Thoughts?

HDMI from the RED One is 720p, not 1080p, so the monitor might be a bit underutilized.

Component HD as a carrier is fine, but if you're going to be grading with a colourist you want a reference monitor, not a consumer monitor. If you grade on the Sharp then everyone who watches your product on that Sharp will find it's fine, but you'll have no idea what it looks like anywhere else.

Please remember that Cineform only works well with AJA cards. The are working on Blackmagic support but if I am correct that is not there yet.

So I would definitely go with AJA instead.

Thanks Mike. I am looking at the Xena LH: http://www.aja.com/html/products_windows_xena_LHe.html

What is the best way to connect this card to a LCD? 12-bit HD Component?
