Hi all,
At the moment I'm using a battery powered NextoDi for CF cards for backing up rushes in the field. Need a similar solution for backing up from SSDs. Any suggestions?

Would love if knew of or made a version of the NextoDI or even the HyperSpace Color UDMA for SSDS, 3.5" drive so you could use 2TB drives with checksum built in

CF Cards are standard, so 3rd party readers work, and there is a larger industry (pro photographers, as well as consumers) that has a use for such a device.

Red SSDs have a proprietary pin-structure. As far as I know, there is no 3rd party device, of any time, that can interface with them. Let alone something portable.

The most portable you're going to get is the 1.8" Red Station attached by firewire/USB to a laptop. Could easily be power issues with doing such a thing, though, even working one day and then not working another, depending on specifics.

Does the 1.8" Red Station needs its own power source or is it powered via the firewire/USB cable?

The Firewire cable also powers the Redstation. I've been using Macbook Pro with external HD for backup in the field.

What Id be most concerned about is that you arent actually checking the footage, rather you could just be performing checksums on bad clips..... or does the nexto allow for playback now?

For desert jobs I always still take a generator, so I can run Esata or TB but I guess for real remote stuff, like wildlife, Id try running the SSD reader VIA FW800 down to the Macbooks internal memory, then to an external Rugged.

An eSATA-capable HDD duplicator connected to the RED MAG station is a useful tool and as close as you can get to the capabilities of a backup unit like the NextoDI or HyperDrive without a computer in the mix. Unfortunately, if people want a solution like either of those two products, RED will have to make it in-house or work with someone else to make it. It really wouldn't be that difficult as the design is straight forward as I explained in another thread.
