I wonder if we can get the cradle that comes with the basic production pack fitted with the AB mount?

can someone explain what is the use of this Gold Mount.
I have read its description, but did not whether it is a Batter module OR it enhances the battery power? OR it distrubutes the battery power eveny to the other accessories?
Who ever has used this mount for other cameras, can you tell us your experience and how much it is worth buying?

Yes, just unscrew the Red plate and replace with the new AB plate

The gold mount is simply the plate that receives the battery.

The only downside is that the AB plate will require a range of AB batteries that carry the same circuit as the Red batteries to give the 'battery power remaining' display info to the camera LCD panel/Red LCD/EVF. Otherwise you're just going to get the 'AC' display.

Hmmm.. Well this is no fun. But since the batteries have their own guage I guess that's alright. I'm sure it will be fixed at some point

YAY.
That's one practical issue with the camera put to bed for me.
Dunno who moved this along but thanks (maybe the Red Team).
Now, about those LDS pins and 1080p... :)
Cheers,

This would be awesome!
Dose any one know if the battery data for RED (vmount) and Anton Bauer are the same?

From Pauls post about the CINE CCLXXX:
As of right now, there is no battery communication from these batteries to the camera, but that is being worked on.
So it seems that AB battery communication is forthcoming.....

This thread should be in the non-existent "equipment forum."
Anyway, here's an update and info from BJ at Custom Supply:
The Anton/Bauer QR-RED battery bracket will be available in about 30 days for $225. Recommended batteries for Red are the Propac14 ($270), Hytron100 ($377), Hytron140 ($475). Approximate run times for a 65 Watt load are .8, 1.3, and 2.0 hrs respectively. These batteries all carry a 4 year warranty. A Titan T2 charger ($820) will charge two Hytron 140 batteries in two and a half hours.
He adds:
Lithium batteries tend to die after about a year, especially when carrying a 65 Watt load, and there are stiff regulations on flying with large lithium batteries these days.
I think he's implicating the Red batteries here, as the Anton/Bauers are a proprietary blend of multiple battery technologies.
The prices are interesting. More options... and certainly better integration with existing systems. Basically $1799 to be up to speed with the Red Power Pack, which is $1450.

I was thinking of buying some additional RED batteries for backup, but these are looking good- any downfall for having both systems- I'm assuming cabling is the same or do I need to rewire the A/B stuff?

After all the red v mount battery issues my thoughts are to go for the anton bauer option. I am thinking of buying an element technica top plate and attach the anton bauer QR-red bracket on top of the back of the ET plate (does anyone know can you buy a handle that attaches to the ET top plate?). Then I will probably look into buying cheaper AB knock off chinese batteries and charger, although the 4 year warranty on the AB brand batteries sounds really good.
Does anyone know who has the best price for AB brand batteries/chargers and also AB knock off batteries/chargers? It seems like there are a lot of people on here with much better internet searching abilities then I. If a really good deal is found on AB chargers and batteries or an AB knock off charger and batteries I would be willing to look into a group buy deal with the company.
With the strong track record of the AB gold system I just see it as the best choice. The system I propose will also keep the battery up and away from the rear controls.

A Titan T2 charger doing 2 batteries in 2.5 hours - that's much faster than the Red system, right?

Yes, well, depends on what batteries. The RED charger, even though it holds two batteries, is a sequential charger only doing one at a time.

The RED charger also can supply AC to the camera with a max 100W load. Even if you could, the Titan chargers I believe max out at 70W which is what the camera alone is rated at. So an LCD/EVF would push it over the limit. Not sure if this is easily modified in the AB gear with a fuse swap. But hopefully the AB charger will be able to run the camera as well ...

Wouldn't it make more sense to use the AC Power Adaptor? http://www.red.com/store/product_detail/78

The charger to me looks like a charger.
Not like an AC adapter.

If the RED camera draws around 60watts, then the Anton/Bauer A/C power supplies on the chargers (70w) will not power them. 70w is based at 15.5v which means it can only handle 4.5amps. The RED camera would probably put it over the edge....

What is the status of the AB Red Plate?
Have we confirmed yet if it will provide power data to the camera?

Hi Greg,
The product is in Engineering and I am just waiting to hear about availability on the 6p LEMO connectors. As you probably know, they are not easy to get, nor are they cheap!!
I will advise you once we have an estimated shipping date.

Paul

After finding out that I will not be able to transport several RED brick back and fourth to Italy do to the Lithium issue, I become aware of the best solution been the Anton Bauer system ( Hytron) the QR-RED I found is $225 and should be ready any day now, also it seems that for us they could be a special deal were not only the the entire A/B batterie system is discounted but we would get the QR-RED for FREE!
Keep you posted.

Any chance of the AB plate being interchangeable with the RED v-mount plate on RED's hardware? It would be handy if we could swap the RED battery plate on the cradle attachment with an AB mount plate.
I'm seriously considering the AB Gold mount batteries as a solution too. They're typically more robust than v-mount.
Ketch, if you're worried about lithium and air travel, there are NiMH based v-mount batteries that will power RED, but you won't have the power status communicated back to the camera. I'm hoping/assuming that the AB QR-RED plate will give battery info to the camera when used with appropriate batteries.

Yes Jeff I know, that is the reason I chose to go with the AB Hytron 100 & 140 with the QR-RED mount.
I like to be positive thinking and so I hope that in the very short future it will be possible for the AB via the QR-RED to get all the info as if using the RED brick.
But I know of no confirm workflow that allows communication to and from the camera wen other then the RED brick is used.

Jeff,
I contacted A/B months ago and requested that they build this part, I also requested that they do exactly what you have suggested and was assured that we would simply remove the screws holding the V-lock plate and attach the AB plate and cable in its place. This would allow us to keep our existing Red Quick Plate and Red Cradle. I would assume this is still the case, although they also told me I would have the plates last month.
Paul, can you confirm this?

The QR-RED will attached to the battery cradle/cage via 4 3mm screws. A simple install.
For those of you who wish to keep the V-Mount on the camera, you can also use the QR-DSR Gold Mount which is designed to attach to any V-Mount camera. The list price on that mount is $150.00.
As for delivery of the QR-RED mount, we have not promised any dates as of yet, but I will advise you on the board here once I have a firm date. As you know, the LEMO connectors are not the easiest connector to purchase...

Abel has the QR-DSR Gold Mount in stock and we can offer you package deals today on Anton/Bauer battery systems. With the new RED plates delivery undetermined, you could go with this system now and we'd fulfill the rest of your order once the plates came in.
We can also rent you this gear today, as we have already done for several RED clients.
